A Celebration of Life for Ross William Severtson, age 80, of Glenville, will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 22, 2017 at Crossroads Evangelical Church in Albert Lea. Rev. Marc Castro will officiate. Interment will be at Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, September 21 at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Ross died Monday, September 18, 2017 at his home.
Ross William Severtson was born to Carl and Ruby (Schneider) Severtson on June 25, 1937 in Albert Lea. He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. In his younger years, he participated in the Golden Gloves and stock car racing. He also golfed and fished when he wasn’t working. He worked at Farmland Foods, previously known as Wilson and Co., for 43 years and 10 months. He worked in the sausage department and later as a carpenter. He built several homes, did much remodeling and cement work when not at the plant. Ross married Ruth Ann (Hendrickson) Grasdalen on July 20, 1985 at Trinity Lutheran Church. Together they were parents to Jeffery (Janet) Severtson of Plymouth, Stacia (Mark) Schumaker of Glenville, Sandin “Sandy” and Lisa Grasdalen of Seattle, WA, Chad (Nicky) Severtson of Albert Lea, and Jason (Laurie Cariveau) Severtson of Los Angeles, CA. They were blessed with 15 grandchildren, Lindsay (Ben) Blecker, Jordan Malimanek and friend Derek Skillman, Kiersten Severtson, Carissa Ketcher, Kelsey (Ryan) Duncan, Bobby (Lera) Severtson, Morgan Schumaker, Taylor and Riley Grasdalen and Caden and Carson Severtson; great-grandchildren, Kaliya Severtson, London Blecker, Dane Skillman, and Teagan Duncan. Ross’s excellent carpentry skills beautified many homes including the farm he shared with Ruth Ann outside of Hayward. He gave much pride and hard work to their farm, raising cattle and taking care of his dogs, maintaining a beautiful lawn on the farm and at their twin home in Glenville.

Janice Marian Storlie (nee Heggen) passed away peacefully on Monday, Sept. 11, 2017, in Houston, Minn.
Jan was born March 31, 1939, in Rothsay, Minn. After high school, she attended nursing training at Lutheran Deaconess in Minneapolis, where she made some of her best and most enduring friendships. After meeting Rolf Storlie at Vermillion Bible Camp, they married on June 12, 1965, and moved to Cogswell, N.D., to begin Rolf’s ministry. A son, Daniel, and daughter, Kristi, followed, and the ministry took Jan and Rolf to Ada, Minn., then to Hartland, Minn., where Erik was born. In 1980, they moved near Rolf’s childhood home to Caledonia, Minn. They lived in Caledonia for about 14 years and then their picturesque farm outside Houston, Minn. Jan was known for her spunk and her cheery attitude. As a nurse, she was sharp and compassionate. She had a special fondness for the residents of Houston County Group Homes, where she worked for 20 years. She loved the churches where she and Rolf served. She was involved in most aspects of church operations, but especially loved the music and the parish nurse program she helped start. She and Rolf prioritized travel, both around America and overseas, including Norway, Israel, Switzerland, Germany, Japan, and India. She was a loving and loyal sibling to her sister and two brothers and their families. She and Rolf had a beautiful marriage and she was a phenomenal mother. Wherever she went, Jan spread joy.

Marlys A. Sunde, age 85 of Waseca, died on Friday, September 8, 2017 at Hillcrest Rehabilitation Center in Mankato.
Born on February 14, 1932 in Bixby, Minnesota, she was the daughter of Joseph and Dorothy (Hanson) Nelson. She attended Bixby Country School and Blooming Prairie High School before graduating from Owatonna High School in 1950. On October 14, 1950, she married LuVern “Bud” Sunde at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Owatonna. After doing in-home daycare when her children were young, Marlys worked at Hammer’s Fashion Center in Waseca. She later worked for several years at the Waseca Clinic. In retirement, Marlys enjoyed working at the Waseca Senior Center. Marlys enjoyed travelling and road trips with her husband, going to thrift shops and garage sales, gardening, walking and biking, taking grandkids to the park, attending grandchildren’s activities, and an occasional outing to the casino. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Waseca.

Dorothy Jane Johnson, age 93 of Blooming Prairie, Minnesota died Saturday morning, September 9, 2017 at Prairie Manor Nursing Home in Blooming Prairie. Dorothy Jane Worke was born April 7, 1924, in Freeborn County, Minnesota, the daughter of Helmer and Agnes (Hagen) Worke. She attended school in New Richland, Minnesota, graduating from New Richland High School in 1941. On December 5, 1942, she married Omer Reese and to this union four sons were born. The couple made their home on a farm west of Red Oak Lutheran Church for twenty-five years. Dorothy was employed by the Owatonna Canning Company for thirty-seven and half years, retiring in 1990. After her retirement, Dorothy worked part-time at Prairie Manor Nursing Home, enjoying the residents as she passed juice and treats to the tenants of Heather Haus where she served the noon meal. Dorothy enjoyed sewing, gardening, crafts, cooking, baking and liked to dance. She was a member of Red Oak Grove Lutheran Church and Dorcas Circle, VFW Auxiliary and American Legion Auxiliary. Dorothy entered Prairie Manor Nursing Home on June 27, 2008.

Richard (Rick) Wesley Stafford, Jr. of Minneapolis, MN passed away on September 2, 2017. He was born on August 25, 1952 in Fort Riley, Kansas to Richard and Audrey (nee Korman) Stafford of New Richland, MN.
He is survived by his mother Audrey Stafford, his brother Steven Stafford (Jean), his sisters Judy DeBlieck (Dale), Patricia Stafford Page, and Susie Getskow (Jeff) and several nieces (Michelle, Jennifer and Melissa) and nephews (Barry, David, Josh, Jonathan and Andrew). He was predeceased by his father.
Rick grew up in New Richland and attended Mankato State University. He worked in the print news field both at the NR Star and as owner/editor of the West Concord newspaper before the start of his lifelong service to the Minnesota DFL. His leadership and service included Chairman of the DFL and member of the Democratic National Committee.
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, September 8, 2017 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, New Richland, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Internment of ashes to follow the service at St. Peter’s Cemetery. Light refreshments to follow at the church.
