Gerald B. Hullopeter, 88, of New Richland passed away Monday, October 16, 2017 at the New Richland Care Center.
A visitation will be from 2-5 p.m. Sunday, October 22, 2017 at All Saints Catholic Church in New Richland. Funeral Mass and interment will be at a later date in the spring. Gerald was born October 28, 1928 to Ben and Eva (Case) Hullopeter in Tracy, MN. After schooling, Gerald farmed with his father around the Tracy area, and eventually joined the National Guard in 1950.
On September 6, 1950 Gerald married his love, Elizabeth “Betty Ann” Beert, and together raised their 10 children.
Gerald was a dedicated farmer his entire life, and worked for a few local butcher shops in the area until 1968 when he bought and ran the New Richland locker plant for over 20 years. He drove Semi with his wife after retiring and enjoyed time with his grandchildren.
He was the proud mayor of New Richland for six years, active in the Knights of Columbus and was a member of the American Legion for over 50 years.

Pauline “Polly” A. Sponberg, age 87, passed away peacefully at her home near New Richland, MN on Monday, October 16, 2017 surrounded by her family. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 21, 2017 at Vista Lutheran Church, rural New Richland. Pastor Brian Gegel will officiate. Visitation will be held Friday evening from 5-8 p.m. at Bonnerup-Friedrich Funeral Home, 217 W Division St, New Richland, and again one hour prior to the service at church. Interment will be in the Vista Lutheran Cemetery.
Pauline Ardis was born on December 1, 1929 to parents Peter and Olava (Bridley) Knutson in Albert Lea, Minnesota. She attended grade school in a one-room schoolhouse, Bell School. Polly graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1948 and from St. Olaf College in 1952. She was a teacher in Pocahontas, Iowa and New Richland, Minnesota, serving on the New Richland-Hartland School Board for 15 years.
On March 19, 1955 Pauline married Darrol Sponberg at Oakland Lutheran Church, where she had been baptized and confirmed. She helped her husband in their trucking and farming business.

Funeral services for Helen Christopherson, 96, of the Freeborn-Hartland area, will be held at 3 pm. on Monday, September 25, 2017 at West Freeborn Lutheran Church. The Reverend Steven Schwartz will officiate. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 4–6 p.m. at Bonnerup Funeral Service, Albert Lea, as well as one hour prior to the service at the church.
Helen died Thursday, September 21, 2017 at Good Samaritan Society where she had been a resident the last two months.
Helen Alvina (Hansen) Christopherson was born on December 29, 1920 in Dexter, MN, the youngest child of Hans and Ada (Noreen) Hansen. The family moved to the farm on the east shore of Freeborn Lake when she was 18 months old. She grew up helping on the farm and attending District 16 School. Her favorite stories of those years were of playing “kittenball” and various races she won.
On October 7, 1940, she was united in marriage to Herman Christopherson. To this union, three children were born: Dale, Judy and Robert. They farmed east of Freeborn where she worked alongside her husband. She was a member of West Freeborn Lutheran Church and the Ladies Aid. She enjoyed her family and all the family gatherings. Her pastimes included: embroidery, patching, and her most favorite – playing cards.
In 1976, Herman and Helen moved into Freeborn where they enjoyed several years of retirement. In 2001, Helen moved to Hartland where she lived until 2010. At this time, she moved to Bancroft Creek Estates where she lived until July 2017.

Funeral services for Alice I. Miller will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, October 20, 2017 at the Hartland Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hartland, MN. The Reverend Shawn Stafford will officiate. Visitation will be from 4–7 p.m. on Thursday at the Friedrich-Bonnerup Funeral Home in New Richland, and again one hour prior to the service at the church.
Alice Irene Miller was born on the family farm on August 22, 1916, the second of five children to Lewis and Malva (Erickson) Myhre. Alice passed away at home on October 15, 2017 surrounded by her family. She was baptized in 1916 and confirmed on June 29, 1930 in Hartland. She attended country school district 98 and lived in the Hartland area most of her life except for a couple years while she worked at the defense plant in Minneapolis during WWII. She traveled there with two other friends by way of the M & St. L railroad that ran through Hartland – sometimes coming home on the weekends.
In her younger years, she worked for area farmers during harvest time, helping in the kitchens or working in the fields harvest potatoes, shocking grain, and picking corn by hand. She cleaned house for the Emil Olson family in Albert Lea for a time.

Avis Darlene (Molyneux) Mickelson, 92 of Ellendale, MN passed away Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at Good Samaritan Society in Albert Lea, MN.
She graduated from Ellendale, MN. After marrying Jerrold H Mickelson on Oct. 18, 1944 they made their home in Clarks Grove, MN where she was a rural mail carrier for many years. She was also an accomplished seamstress and sewed beautiful wedding dresses and bridesmaid’s gowns for many.
She enjoyed golfing, fishing, dancing and gardening. She and Jerry made many fun-filled trips to Northern MN to fish and loved spending winters in AZ where they could golf and spend time with family and friends. She was healthy and vibrant into her late 80s always amazing her daughters with her energy and quick wit.
