Jay A. Adams, age 65 of West Concord, formerly of Goodhue passed away on Friday, December 8, 2017 at Mayo Clinic Hospital – Rochester, St. Marys Campus. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, December 17, 2017 at 1 p.m. at the Goodhue Lions Community Center – 105 North Broadway, Goodhue, MN with a one hour visitation prior.

Jay Anthony Adams was born on November 17, 1952 in Wells, MN to Christopher R. and Eva I. (nee Wallace) Adams. He grew up in the Wells area and attended Wells schools. On May 1, 1971 he married Jeanne R. Titel in Red Wing. Jay and Jeanne moved around to several towns while raising their family of four sons. They settled into their retirement in Goodhue, MN. Shortly after Jeanne passed away on December 29, 2015, Jay moved to West Concord.

Jay spent most of his working life at Busby Construction and Schumacher Excavating.

Jay enjoyed building and driving cars in demolition derbies, hunting, camping, snowmobiling, four wheeling, and playing cards.

Remembering Virgil C. Worke…

Memorial Services for Virgil C. Worke, formerly of Clarks Grove, will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, December 15th at First Lutheran Church in Ellendale. The Reverend Richard L. Sliper will officiate. Interment will be in First Lutheran Cemetery, Ellendale. Military honors will be accorded by the Ellendale Veteran’s Organization. Friends may visit one hour before the service at the church. Bonnerup Funeral Service is assisting the family.

Virgil died on Monday, November 27, at Castle Ridge Care Center in Eden Prairie, MN.  He was 85.

He was born on May 27, 1932, in Ellendale, MN, the son of Helmer and Agnes (Hagen) Worke.

He graduated from Ellendale High School and then served our country in the US Army during the Korean War.

He was united to Eloris Anderson on January 30, 1956, in Ellendale, Minnesota and they made their home in Clarks Grove, MN.

Virgil had worked at the Albert Lea Foundry for many years and then Enderes Tool before retiring. After retirement he kept busy working for the City of Clarks Grove which he enjoyed.  He also found passion helping his brother-in-law on the farm.

Virgil enjoyed snowmobiling, bowling, dancing the polka and curling in earlier years.  He loved playing cards, being around family and enjoying good food.

Juliet A. Salmon, age 84 of Waseca died on Sunday, November 19, 2017 at the New Richland Care Center.

Born on October 9, 1933 in Waseca County, Minnesota, she was the daughter of Carl and Irene (Johnson) Paulson. She attended rural Waseca County schools before graduating from New Richland High School. Julie married Raymond Salmon on June 10, 1953 at the Le Sueur River Lutheran Church. She and her husband owned and operated the Sweet Shop Restaurant in New Richland for several years. In 1969 they moved to Florida where she worked as a loan officer for over 20 years. They moved back to Minnesota in 1991 where she worked for Budach Implement in New Richland for about ten years. Julie enjoyed reading, playing the piano, and crossword puzzles. She was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Waseca.

She is survived by two children, Mark (Terri) Salmon of Cape Coral, FL and Tracy Hewett of Waseca; three grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister, Iona (Tony) Arnfelt of Waseca; one brother, Bernard (Angie) Paulson of Mt. Vernon, IA; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one sister, Caroline (Clarence) Prehn; and two grandchildren, J.T. Hewett and Jonathan Salmon.

The funeral service for Irene L. Lust, of New Richland, will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at All Saints Catholic church in New Richland. Father Michael Cronin will officiate. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, New Richland. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Monday November 27, 2017 at the Bonnerup Funeral Home, New Richland and one hour before the service at the church. 

Irene died after suffering a stroke on November 22, 2017 at the age of 91. She was born on July 27, 1926 on the family farm to Thomas and Monika Chicos.  As a young child, Irene enjoyed school immensely and graduated from Freeborn High School in 1943.  She pursued teacher training in Wells and Mankato and subsequently taught in many one room country schools in the area. On July 14, 1949 Irene married Hubert Lust at All Saints Catholic Church.  They lived in Matawan where Irene taught school until the birth of their first child. In 1961, the Lust family moved to New Richland where Irene and Hubert raised their children. It was very important to Irene to be a good homemaker and mother. She learned about nutrition and healthy living for her family and made sure her children received a good education.  

Irene enjoyed many activities. She planned a vegetable garden each spring. She loved attending social events, watching sports on TV, listening to music, and baking and eating delicious desserts. She especially enjoyed reminiscing with her siblings about the olden days as she fondly referred to them.  Her faith was a center point in Irene’s life. She was an active member of All Saints Parish and enjoyed participating in parish events. Irene lived in her home in New Richland until her death.

A funeral service for Arlys Edwards will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at Trinity Lutheran Church, New Richland. The Reverend Paul Andree will officiate. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in St. Olaf Cemetery.

Arlys passed away on Thursday, November 16, 2017 at the Homestead Hospice House in Owatonna. She was 91 years old.

Arlys M. Edwards was born on June 22, 1926 in McIntosh, MN to Jacob and Myra (Henschke) Johnson. After Arlys graduated from McIntosh High School in 1944. She began working for Pioneer Mutual until 1949.  From there, she moved to California where she began working for Dart Industries, where she was  the Executive Secretary. She worked for Dart until 1982, where she would then return to New Richland.

On November 19, 1956, Arlys was united in marriage to Harry E. Edwards. The couple would enjoy their time together in California until Harry’s death in 1973.

Arlys was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, and was very active in many different activities within the church. She was a member and past president of the Legion Auxiliary, where she served in that role for 12 years.  Arlys enjoyed listening and playing music, liked to golf, and enjoyed anytime where she could lend a hand and volunteer. Arlys enjoyed a good game of bridge with family and friends – and she always played to win!  There was always a full candy jar on Arlys’ table for any guests that may come over. Arlys did not have children, but she was liked to treat her nieces and nephews and their families like they were her own.
