There’s no question where the strength has been so far for the NRHEG boys’ track and field team.

It’s in the throws.

The weight men had another strong showing at last Thursday’s Maple River Invitational, placing first, second and fifth in the shot put and discus.

“It was another good night for our throwers,” said coach Duey Ferber.

Also continuing to shine was the 4x800-meter relay team, which came within three seconds of a school record.

Minnesota Valley Lutheran won the meet, totaling 175 points. Following: Maple River 144.33. USC/AC 103.33, NRHEG 88, Madelia-Truman 43.33, Mankato Loyola 1.

The Panthers’ Keith Maxon won the discus with a toss of 145-8 and the shot put at 42-11. Kevin Kalis was second in both events, throwing the discus 132-7 and the shot 42-5. Zeke Erickson was fifth in both events.

Tyler Schlaak, John Cole, Nate Krause and Josh Flemming teamed to win the 4x800 in 8:45.3.

Schlaak clocked 2:09.51 for second in the 800 while John Cole was second in the 3200 in 10:52.

Other NRHEG places: 4x200 relay, third (Aaron Seath, Zach Mely, Noah Sletten, Karter Sletten); Flemming, fourth, 800 and sixth, long jump; 4x400 relay, fourth (Schlaak, Cole, Flemming, Nate Krause); Noah Sletten, fifth, 100 hurdles; 4x100 relay, fifth (Seath, Mealy, N.Sletten, Krause); Schlaak, fifth, triple jump; Mely, sixth, 200.
