Anita Genelle Kohl, 80, of Burlington, Iowa, died at 10:22 a.m. Saturday, December 19, 2015, at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born November 9, 1935, in New Richland, MN, she was the daughter of Peter and Ruby Hage Schjei. On April 5, 1954, she married Shirley Dean Conwell in New Richland, MN. They later divorced. She married Robert Kohl on July 4, 1986 in Burlington. They later divorced.

Anita was the Des Moines County Recorder for 32 years before she retired.

She graduated from Mason City High School in 1953.

She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church and a member of the Red Hat Society, Sandi's Sew N Sew Shop and many bridge clubs. She enjoyed playing bridge, sewing, quilting, shopping and traveling. She cherished time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include one daughter, Deeann Bruff of Kent, WA; three sons, Randy (Cheryl) Conwell of Chandler, AZ, Mike (Jennifer) Conwell of Sperry, Scott Conwell of Burlington; one daughter-in-law, Deb Conwell-Cole of Altoona; 18 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one sister, Karen (Mark) Benson of Stoughton, WI; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Robert & Peter; and one grandson, Shawn.

Visitation will be from noon until 7 p.m. with the family to receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, December 22, 2015, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.

The funeral service for Mrs. Kohl will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, December 23, 2015, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home with Pastor Kathleen Wohlers officiating. A time of food and fellowship will be held Peace Lutheran Church following the service. Cremation will be entrusted to the care of Prugh~Thielen Crematory following the service.

A memorial has been established.
