The 2012 Waseca County Fair was the highlight of the year for more than 250 members in Waseca County 4-H.

Hundreds turn out for 2012 Waseca County Relay for Life

Celebrate. Remember. Fight Back.
These words were seen everywhere at the Waseca County Fairgrounds for the 19th Annual Relay For Life. It began Friday, July 20, at 6 p.m. and went on until Saturday, July 21, at 6 a.m.
The air was filled with words of support and survival stories. When people first walk into the fairgrounds, they see a lot of different teams in shirts of varying colors.
The people wearing purple shirts are people who have had cancer. The people wearing white shirts don't have cancer, but are in support of family and friends who do. The people wearing green shirts are caregivers, people who take care of someone who has cancer.

The recent tragic events that occurred were a shock to our area families. These were great people who did their best to live a productive, happy life and were available to help those who needed help and did it with a smile. They were not without pain and sadness, but they turned it into love for others.
Mike Baynes had a job only a caring person could handle. As an Associate Director of Student Life on the Saint Catherine University in Minneapolis, Baynes had a following of students, friends and co-workers who recognized what he was. He can't take all the credit. He was brought up in a good two-party home with parents who cared. They taught him well.
The church was overflowing and there were also tears of sadness from many students who came from the Twin Cities to show respect for one who showed them respect. Bayne’s message of hope and peace was something he lived, shared and taught.

Even though New Richland is pretty far from the ocean, it didn’t prevent a pirate from coming to town and plundering the “loot” at the Farm and City Days “New Richland’s Got Talent” event Friday evening, July 6.
The week-long temperatures close to 100 couldn’t deter the audience gathered on Broadway in front of the stage from having a good time. The format for the annual event was changed from last year’s New Richland Idol to allow different forms of talent in the contest. Instead of judges, the audience determined the winner.
Master of ceremonies Kelly Martens welcomed everyone and introduced the first performer, Lillie Nielsen (New Richland Idol Junior Winner 2011) who sang “Rolling in the Deep.”
