A packed week of Snow Week events at NRHEG included five dress-up days, a dodgeball tournament, the crowning of the King and Queen, and concluded with a dance in the high school gymnasium

Royalty gathered together in the NRHEG high school gymnasium Tuesday afternoon, January 30 to find out who among them would be crowned King and Queen.

Malonna Wilson and Danny Deniz-Clark were crowned 2024 Snow Week King and Queen by the NRHEG 2023 Homecoming King and Queen William Tuttle and Hallie Schultz.

Serving as the emcees, Hallie Schultz and Isabel Stadheim welcomed hundreds of students, faculty, friends and family, introduced winter sports coaches and instructors to speak, and finally introduced the 2024 Snow Court.

The following introduction was read aloud, introducing the queen and king, followed by the rest of the 2024 Snow Court.

“Malonna is the daughter of Becky and Richard Lassahn. She has three siblings, Lonnie, Tyrone, and Sean. Her hobbies include self-care, faith practices, hanging out with friends, dancing, listening to music and traveling. Malonna is involved in sideline cheer, competition cheer, and track and field. She is good at encouraging people, but not very good at wanting to do school work. If she could choose any song to play every time she walked into a room, it would be “Firm Foundation” by Cody Carnes, because she says, “It reminds me that God, my anchor, is with me and gives me strength to do and overcome anything.” Malonna’s hero is Jesus because he lived his life righteously and suffered to allow her to have a relationship with God and gain everlasting life. Malonna is undecided on her plans for after high school.

“Danny is the son of Tiffany Clark and Barrie MacConnell and his grandma is Esther. He has three siblings, two sisters, Hailey and Zoey and one brother, Barrie. His hobbies include camping and hiking and he is involved in choir and walking. Danny is good at most things and not good at nothing at all. If he could choose any song to play every time he walked into a room, it would be “Good Feeling” by Flo Rida because we will have fun and enjoy together. Danny’s hero is Barrie, his step father, because he feels like a real father. After high school, Dylan plans to attend college.”

“Kyra is the daughter of Robert and Jane Reese. She has two siblings: Jared Cain and Dalton Urban. In her free time, she enjoys hanging out with friends, horseback riding, shopping, jamming out to music in the car and being with family. Kyra is in yearbook at school, and works at the Prairie Manor nursing home. She is really good at hitting mailboxes, especially her own, but not very good at understanding simple questions. If she could choose one song to play every time she walked into a room, it would be “Revival” by Zach Bryan. It's simply the best song. Her heroes  are all the paras because they got her through all her classes in high school. After high school, Kyra plans to go to nursing school at Riverland Community College.”

“Sam is the son of Patty Olson. He has one brother, Jack. Sam’s hobbies include skiing and hunting. He is involved in football, basketball and baseball in high school. Sam is good at 1v1, lol, however he’s not very good at writing papers. If he could choose one song to play every time he walks in a room, it would be “Back in Blood” by Pooh Shiesty because it goes hard. Sam says his hero is Reese, because he helps me with my homework, especially English. After high school, Sam plans to go work.”

“Evelyn is the daughter of Larry and Michele Nydegger. She has one ancient older brother, Daniel. Evelyn enjoys painting, anything crafty and hands-on, snowmobiling, and chilling with her dog, Trigger. Evelyn participates in track and field, soccer, student ambassadors, yearbook, and National Honors Society. She is good at taking naps on the floor (It is truly the most comfortable spot.), but not very good at falling asleep in her own bed when it is actually time to sleep. (She is nocturnal.) If she could choose one song to play every time she walks into a room, it would be “Glorious” by Macklemore. That's just the obvious choice here. Evelyn’s heroes are her parents and brother.  She says “They have shown me so much and taught me so much that I don't know what I would do without them. I look up to them and I can't wait to see what we will be able to accomplish.” After high school, Evelyn plans to attend Minnesota State University Moorhead to study Exercise Science, working towards becoming a physical therapist. She will be playing soccer for them too. Go Dragons!”

“Reese is the son of Travis and Lisa Routh. He has two brothers, Braden and Thor. His hobbies include riding snowmobiles and motorcycles. Reese is involved in football and wrestling. He is good at writing English papers, but not very good at hugging people without permission, according to Mrs. Gail. If he could choose any song to play every time he walked into a room, it would be “Sundown” by Gordan Lightfoot because it upsets his mother. His hero is Mrs. Gail, because she gives him hugs. After high school, Reese plans to go to study Law enforcement.”

“Elsie is the daughter of Matt and Emily Schultz. She has one brother, Riley. Her hobbies include spending time with friends, going up north with her mom, shopping, and volleyball. She also enjoys spending time at the lake. The best lake days are when her dad’s legs get blown up by fireworks. Elsie is involved in school, JO and club volleyball, winter and spring softball, and FCA. She is especially talented at making her father angry, but not very good at getting along with little kids….or Levin. If she could choose any song to play every time she walked into a room, it would be “Gone Away” by Elsie. It's truly a masterpiece. Check it out on YouTube…. You won’t regret it! Elsie’s hero is Jesus. Honorable mention to Marcia Berg because she is the best person ever. After high school, Elsie will be attending the University of Wisconsin, La Crosse, majoring in sports and exercise science to become a physical therapist.

“Levin is the son of Jeff and Amy Kitzer. He has two siblings, younger brother Boden and older sister Alexi. His hobbies include mountain biking, biking, tubing, surfing, walking, running, underwater welding, dancing, TikTok influencer, knitting, photography, gardening, shopping, painting, cooking, chess, hunting, fishing, loving every day, rollerblading, fishing (again!), archery, kitesurfing, and hanging out with Faith and Barb. Levin is involved in basketball, track and field, and Deca. He is good at being nonchalant, but not very good at being bad at things. If Levin could choose any song to play every time he walked into a room, it would be any song but Gone Away by Elsie Rene Schultz. It is not a masterpiece. His heroes are his parents because they support him and are always there for him. After high school, Levin plans to go to college to get more knowledge.”

“Erin is the daughter of Chris and Mandra Peterson. She has two sisters, Anna and Kali. She enjoys reading, shopping, baking, running, working, and hanging out with friends. Erin is involved in softball, volleyball, yearbook and National Honor Society. She is good at falling asleep, but not very good at waking up to all of her alarms. If she could choose any song to play every time she walked into a room, it would be “I wanna talk about me” by Toby Keith because it's not always about you, Anna; this time it's about me! Erin’s hero is her grandma because she has always inspired her to do all the good that she can, has always been there for her no matter what, and has helped her to become the person she is today. After high school, Erin plans to attend South Dakota State University and major in Nursing.”

“Parker is the son of David and Jennifer Bunn. He has two sisters, Payton and Sofia. His hobbies include lifting and riding motorcycles. Parker is involved in track, wrestling, and Deca. He is good at yelling at his Xbox, but not very good at staying quiet while his sisters are trying to sleep. If Parker could choose any song to play every time he walked into a room, it would be “In Ha Mood” by Ice Spice because it's cool. His heroes are his parents, because they were with him through all his struggles and taught him what it means to be a good person. After high school, Parker plans to attend Winona State University and major in business.”
