Geneva cancer ‘mini auction’ highlights weekend

By TRISTAN JENSEN

“Stretch your bidding arms,” was the call made as Geneva Cancer Auction held its Annual Mini-Auction Saturday, April 1 at the Geneva Bar and Grill. At their mini-auction they sell any remaining items which there wasn't time to auction off at the main auctions in January. Barb Kuchenbecker, of the Geneva Cancer Auction board, said there was more than usual available on the mini-auction this year as people were very generous with their donations this January. In addition to leftovers from the big auction there were some new donations for sale, particularly food and floral items. The auction began at 2 p.m. and was scheduled to go “until it's gone.”

There was also a silent auction held during the mini-auction, which continued the following morning during Geneva Cancer Auction's pancake breakfast. The breakfast was also held at the Geneva Bar and Grill, Sunday April 2 from 8-12. Eggs for the breakfast were donated by Agnes Christensen and Tim Simon, and the milk and orange juice were donated by Kwik Trip.

The weekend was just the start of a new year of fundraising. The next event held by Geneva Cancer Auction will be their springtime Purse Bingo, date to be determined. Tickets are also currently on sale for the Geneva Cancer Auction's beer raffle, selling a pallet (98 cases) of Busch Lite. Tickets can be purchased from any Geneva Cancer Auction board member for $20, up to a maximum of 500 sold. The drawing will take place July 15 at 6 p.m. Geneva Cancer Auction also looks forward to its annual golf outing, sale of mums in the fall, at their Matt Felt Pool Tournament over Thanksgiving Weekend.
