The big weekend is here, New Richland.

Farm & City Days, the annual celebration that seems to swell the population of the town by several hundred, runs Friday through Sunday, July 12-14.

It starts as the Lions Club serves baked potatoes and root beer floats from 4:30-6:30 Friday at City Hall. Fireworks are also set for Friday, on 7th St. in the northwest part of town. Folks are invited to bring their lawn chairs, relax, and enjoy the show. Before the fireworks, there are bean bag tournaments, Bingo and a movie for the kids at City Hall.

Saturday starts bright and early with the annual fire department pancake breakfast from 7-10 a.m., where the grand marshal of the parade will be announced. As usual, Jim Kozan will provide entertainment.

Saturday is packed with events, highlighted by the parade at 5 p.m.

A tradition, the Top 25 Antique Car Show, is Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on 1st St. NW,

There are several new events this year, including:

• An art exhibit depicting New Richland from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Washburn Hotel

• Sidewalk chalk activity Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Broadway Ave. for ages 2-99

Buttons give you discounted breakfast on Saturday, free admission to the Saturday night street dance and a chance to win prizes up to $200. Buttons won’t be sold once Farm & City Days begins.

“We appreciate all the sponsors for the events,” said Farm & City Days committee member Pam Goehring, who said many area agribusinesses plan to attend the Saturday reunion at City Hall. “We appreciate the effort everyone puts into Farm & City Days, and we look forward to a great weekend.”
