30th Annual Geneva Cancer Auction kicks off this weekend

By KATHY PAULSEN

Staff Writer

With the hustle and bustle of the holidays, we may have forgotten it will soon be that time of the year for the annual Geneva Cancer Auction, which this year marks the 30th anniversary.

The cancer auctions over the years at Geneva Bar & Grill have been so successful, it should be a stimulus to not only continue the efforts, but strive for even more.

Grab your sellable treasures and homemade goodies and that special hometown spirit and come out for some great fun and fund raising in Geneva. Donations can be dropped off at Geneva Bar & Grill any time. It is hoped that many of the great cooks from the area will also bring along some tasty food items for the auction when they come to support this yearly fundraising event.

There is nothing like the goodwill and "live" entertainment this event generates to beat the winter time blues. It is a feel-good event and we are still searching for the miracle to defeat cancer.

The 30th Annual Geneva Cancer Auction will begin at 7 Friday night, January 10 and resumses again at 2 on Saturday, January 11. It will continue the following weekend at 7 on Friday night, January 17 and again on Saturday, Janary 18 at 2 p.m..

Whitey and LaJune Hagen will once again be making their yearly trip to Rochester on Sunday, January 19, to present a check during the annual Eagles Cancer Telethon, from all of the different cancer fundraising events that have taken place over the year.

The cancer fundraising events reached that $1 million amount in 2010, and each of the following years, 2011 and 2012, approximately $80,000 was raised and added to that grand total, thanks to a lot of great people and events.

Cancer doesn't quit, so neither can we. While we search and invest in a cure, let us not forget something causes it, so we need to be aware of the changes in our lifestyle that keeps it from happening.

Once again, let's make this the year to do all that we can to help change fighting cancer to a cure for cancer.
