Can the GPS tell me why I’m driving?

Echoes from the Loafers’ Club Meeting  I lost my job, my wife left me, the bank foreclosed on my home and my car was stolen.     You’re in a good mood for someone who had suffered through all that.   Well, I’m not going to let one day ruin the entire week.  Driving by Bruce's drive  I have a wonderful neighbor named Bruce. Getting cracked and punctured

During my college years, I hurt my back while moving cases of goods around at the grocery store where I worked. It wasn’t horrible, but the pain was nagging at me daily. My boss suggested that, in addition to lifting more with my legs, I should see a chiropractor. Um, no, I told him. No way was I going to see a back-cracker. The idea of the sound was enough to keep me away. However, the pain lingered, and I finally

What’s the best cell phone plan?

Schools around the country, and even in our area, are making drastic changes to how they handle cell phones in the hands of students. Maple River even built their new school with little cell phone lockers as a place for students to leave their devices during the school day. As technology changes, schools have to adjust on the fly. When I started teaching in the mid-90s, we still filled out bubble sheets for our grades at the end of the quarter.

I believe that spring is, finally in the air

I believe that spring is, finally, in the air I don’t want to jinx it, but I believe that we are on our way to spring-like weather. With the amount of snow that the northern part of the state received this winter, I believe that it will be a while before I will be able to get to the cabin. In my never-ending quest to convince old Mother Nature to put a rush on spring, I feel like I may be

A lighter week of ‘newsing

In this week’s adventures in ‘newsing,’ it was a lighter week. We had a snow storm, which kept me cooped up for the majority of last week. I would like to extend a giant thank you to whoever plowed snow in front of the Star Eagle. I came in Thursday evening and was very pleasantly surprised not to find five feet of snow in front of my office. I think I have the city to thank. It is much appreciated.
