Funeral services for Adeline W. (Kopischke) Wood, age 91, of New Richland, MN, will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at St. Peters Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Richland, MN. The Reverend Scott Williams will officiate. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 – 11 a.m., prior to services. Interment will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery, New Richland. Adeline Wood passed away peacefully Wednesday, June 13, at St. Lucas Care Center in Faribault, MN. Adeline was born March 23, 1921 to Fred and Emma (Schlaak) Kopischke in Alma City, MN.
Catherine Jeanette Nelson Miller, also known as "Boomer," formerly of Huntington Beach, CA, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 27, 2012 in Rancho Mirage, CA. Her husband and nieces were at her bedside, along with her two dear kitties, Cleo and Lulu. She is survived by her husband, Bud, nieces, Kathy (Dan) Arthofer, Rancho Mirage, CA, Joyce (Larry) Hoddick, Palm Desert, CA, Stephanie Kibler, Ellendale, MN and nephew, Jeff (Sharon) Lageson, Geneva, MN in addition to great nieces and nephews. Catherine is also survived by Steve (Val) Miller and Craig (Connie) Miller, in addition to numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, all of Minnesota.
Funeral services for Elsie Bernadene Paulson, age 89, of Albert Lea will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 14, 2012 at Trinity Lutheran Church. Rev. Curtis Zieske will officiate. Funeral services for Andrew Samuel (Sam) Brekke of Ellendale, MN, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 9, 2012 at the Pontoppidan Lutheran Church in Rural Ellendale, MN. Pastor Sandy Miller will officiate. Visitation will be held Friday evening from 4 until 7 p.m. at the Friedrich Funeral Home in New Richland, MN, and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Sam died Tuesday evening, June 5, 2012 at his home in Ellendale of an apparent heart attack. He was 66 years of age.
Sam was born December 19, 1945 in Red Wing, MN, the son of Walter and Dorothy (Hanson) Brekke. He graduated from Red Wing High School and received his accounting degree from Faribault Vocational College.
Dean Kaplan, age 46, of Garden Grove, California, formerly of Ellendale, MN passed away on May 29, 2012, in California after a long battle with cancer.
He was born March 2, 1966, in Owatonna to Lloyd and Jacqueline (Roeker) Kaplan, formerly of Ellendale, now of Owatonna. He graduated from Ellendale-Geneva High School in 1984 and from Southwest State University. He was a big sports fan, especially the Minnesota Gopher teams; enjoyed watching his children compete in swimming and gymnastics, and also followed horse racing. Prior to his death he was employed by Direct TV in California. He married his wife, May, on November 23, 1996. She survives as well as a daughter, Eva, age 11, and a son, Ethan, age 9.
He is also survived by his parents Lloyd and Jackie Kaplan of Owatonna, a sister, Gail Kaplan, of Roseville, Minnesota, and his maternal grandmother, Marie Roeker of Owatonna.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Herman Roeker, and paternal grandparents, Frank and Esther (Busho) Kaplan.
Services will be private with a celebration of Dean's life held at a later date. Locally, friends may call at the home of Lloyd and Jackie Kaplan, 514 Ashley Lane SE, Owatonna on Saturday, June 23, 2012, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. for a "Time of Fellowship, Sharing and Remembrance."

Robert died Sunday June 3, 2012 at St. Mary’s Hospital, Rochester, MN. He was 69 years old.
Ronald Dean “Ron” Reese, age 66 of Blooming Prairie, MN passed away Friday, June 1, 2012 at Good Samaritan Society in Albert Lea, MN. He was born on August 14, 1945 in Waseca, MN to Omer and Dorothy (Worke) Reese. Ron graduated from Blooming Prairie High School in 1963 and served in the U.S. Army from 1963 - 1966. Ron graduated from Mankato State with a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science and psychology in 1971. He worked most of his life for Bank of America as a stockbroker specializing in insurance mutual funds. Ron married Mary Bolger in Austin, MN and the couple moved to England. Three children were born to this union. The couple was divorced later. He enjoyed golfing and attending family get- togethers. Ron was a member of the American Legion, VFW and Red Oak Grove Lutheran Church.
Jerry Robinson, age 86 of Waseca died on Thursday, May 31, 2012 at the Lake Shore Inn in Waseca.
Born on May 2, 1926 in New Richland, Minnesota he was the son of Donald and Margaret (Collins) Robinson. He served in the U.S. Army from 1945 until his honorable discharge in 1946. Jerry married Alice Born on May 8, 1954 at the Evangelical United Methodist Church in Waseca. He was employed as a trucker for Frodl Trucking and Born Livestock and also worked for the Byron Farm Store in Waseca. He later was employed by the City of Waseca Street Department for many years until his retirement in 1991. Jerry enjoyed horses and auctions and sharing his sense of humor and quick wit. He was a member of the Evangelical United Methodist Church, the American Legion, and VFW in Waseca.
George A. Radtke was born on February 22, 1920, to Albert and Louise (Hiepler) Radtke in Madison, MN. His father was killed in a runaway accident during threshing time when George was 6 years old and he moved with his mother to Ellendale, ND, in 1926. He completed his elementary and high school education there, graduating in 1939.
George moved to Fargo and managed an oil station while attending NDAC (now NDSU) until 1941, when he was among the first drafted into the Army on December 29, 1941. He was commissioned to 2nd Lt. in 1942 and also to 1st LT. in the Army Corps of Engineers. He went overseas in 1943 and took part in the Normandy Invasion, Battle of the Bulge in 1944, and was also present at the fall of Berlin. He returned to the U.S. after VE Day (Victory in Europe) on July 3, 1945. George arrived in Minneapolis, MN, on July 9 and a short time later married Eleonore Nieman in Fargo, ND, on July 29, 1945.
The memorial service for John Lawrence Chicos will be 8 a.m. Thursday, June 14, 2012 at the All Saints Catholic Church in New Richland with Father Swami celebrating. Inurnment will be in the Calvary Cemetery in New Richland.
John Lawrence Chicos, 92, died on May 4, 2012, at Chicos Board and Lodge in West Concord, MN.
John was born on February 1, 1920, the son of Peter and Agnes (Mucha) Chicos in Freeborn County, MN.
John is survived by two sisters, Marianne Jorgensen, Chaska, MN; Loretta Mohr, Culver, OR; one brother, Leo Chicos, Rochester, MN, several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers and five sisters.

Laurence Charles Supalla passed away on May 20, 2012 at the New Richland Care Center. He was 85 years old.
Laurence was born in Brush Creek, MN on May 30, 1926, to George and Adeline (Paul) Supalla. Laurence attended school in Easton, MN. Following graduation, Laurence was united in marriage to Irene Ignaszewski on February 15, 1949 in Wells, MN. The couple moved to New Richland shortly after marriage to begin to farm. He was the co-founder for Minnesota Waxy Corn Growers Association, which is the base company of Sunopta. He also served on the board of directors. Laurence continued to farm until retiring in 1982, when he and Irene moved in to town. Laurence enjoyed spending time with family, golfing, going to Florida for the winter months, farming with his sons after retirement, and was an avid Twins fan. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion.
Laurence is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Paul and Charles; and sister, Mary Johnson.
He is survived by his loving wife, Irene Supalla; children, Michael (Gretchen) Supalla of New Richland, Barbara (David) Lyndgaard of Avon, MN, Christine (Kevin) Johnson of New Richland, Betty (Reuben Woitas) of Spring Hill, FL, and Randy (Susan) Supalla of Bemidji; grandchildren, Sharra (Scott), Raquel (Todd), Lynsey (Jeremy), Kyhl (Marian), Laura (Andrew), Dana (Kris), Nicole (Todd), Chad (Megan), Jennifer (Gregg), Mark (Ellen), Robyn (Brad), Wendy, and Brandon; 17 great grandchildren; brother, John Supalla of New Richland; sister Anne Theder of Coppell, TX; many nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and friends.
Laurence will be remembered as a wonderful husband and father. He will be missed.

Carl “Bud” “Governor” Matthies, 89, of New Richland, MN passed away Tuesday, May 1, 2012 in Bullhead City, AZ. Services will be held on June 13, 2012, at 3 p.m. at the First Congregational Church in New Richland.
Carl was born June 19, 1922 In New Richland, MN to Carl F. and Bertha (Halvorson) Matthies. He was a retired farmer and operated the road grader for New Richland Township for many years. He was a former Lion’s Club member and a bowling team member.
Carl loved to hunt in Wyoming, travel the country and relax at his favorite casinos. He made many friends as he went through life.
His family will truly miss him which includes son Steven (Mary) Matthies of Lakeside, AZ; daughter Wendy Linderman of Bullhead City, AZ; grandchildren Stephen Matthies of Red Wing, MN, Michele Matthies Graunke of Victoria, MN, Chris Matthies of Chaska, MN, Eric Matthies of Chaska, MN and Jesse Linderman, Surprise, AZ; great grandchildren Danielle, Anthony, Nicole, Amy, Miranda, Lucas, Emma, Hayley and Christopher.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife Jeanne Marie (Christensen) Matthies; brothers Otto, Fred, Orville, and Ralph; sisters Cora, Ella, Elsie and Clara; and great grandchild Brandon Matthies.

Henry died on Saturday, May 5, 2012 at the Country Neighbors in Mapleton.
Henry Albert Johnson was born on March 15, 1921 in Hartland, the son of John A. and Nellie A. (Young) Johnson. He was a lifelong farmer in the Hartland area. He went to country school there and was a member of the Cross of Glory Lutheran Church. Henry loved all things associated with farming. One of his favorite pastimes was driving around “checking the crops.” He also enjoyed black dogs and had several as pets, all named “Blackie.” Henry was a very devoted son and a wonderful brother and uncle.
Survivors include his nieces Linda (Gale) Poyorena of Santa Barbara, CA and LeAnn (Mike) Speshyock, of Goleta, CA, four great-neices and three great-nephews, special friends Alan (Kim) Lebeck and their family.
Henry was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Marie Esse, and brothers Edwin and James Johnson.

Louie Donald Mortenson Sr., 87, of New Richland, MN, died Monday, April 30, 2012 at Mayo Clinic Health Systems-Albert Lea, from complications of a stroke. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, May 5, 2012 at 11 a.m. at St. Casimir Catholic Church in Wells. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the church until the time of the service. Father Niehaus will officiate, and burial will take place in Rosehill Cemetery in Wells. Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells is in charge of the arrangements.
There are many words that we could use to describe our dad. The man was known as dad, father, farmer, brother, grandpa, great-grandpa, “sonny boy,” uncle, story teller, poet, singer, avid gardener, steward of the earth and friend. He lived his life with determination and dedication. He loved his life as a farmer and passed that trait to his daughters, sons, sons-in-law, granddaughters and grandsons. He was proud of his life and family.
Louie was born June 4, 1924 in Hartland Township to Louis and Agnes (Mucha) Mortenson. He married the love of his life and best friend, Marcelene Marcella Martin in Wells on June 27, 1948. They build a new home on their homesite where they resided. They were married for 62 years, when she preceded him in death on March 2, 2011.
His loving family who will miss him dearly survive him: Anna Kathleen (John) Kern, Louanna Mortenson-Pederson, Candy (Robert) Klimpel, Marcy (John) Thisius, Louie, Jr. “Bronco”(Penny) Mortenson, Robert (Lisa) Mortenson and Donald (Holly) Mortenson; Grandchildren: Collete (Brian) Burandt, Dustin (Danielle) Kern, Nicholas (Lisa) Pederson, Emmylou (Robert) Allen, Lacey Pederson (special friend Jason Sajdak), Rachel and Melanie Klimpel, Sarah Thisius and fiancé Eric Willaert, Lindsey Greff, Kirsten Thisius (special friend Chad Guentzel), Louie “Weston” and Cody Mortenson (special friend Stacia Tatarek), Ashley Mortenson, Marissa and Sadie Mortenson; Great-grandchildren: Carlie and Jaden Burandt, Davis and Dreya Kern, Aleesha, Dominick, Jaxon and Colton Lou (due in July) Pederson, Annabelle and Ethan Allen, Connor, Bella and Grayson Willaert, Amelia and Abigail Greff and Emma Mortenson. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and their families.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marcelene; and three sisters and their husbands, Hattie (Ingevold) Frandle, Audrey (Barney) LaRue and Leona (Herman) Olson.
Our lives have truly been blessed having him. He will be sorely missed. Blessed be his memory.
