BRENT THOMAS POSSIN, age 50 of New Richland died on Friday, January 26, 2024 in Cancun, Mexico.

Born on April 18, 1973 in Waseca, Minnesota, he was the son of Richard and Sharon (Owens) Possin.  He graduated from NRHEG High School in 1991.   While in high school Brent was active with FFA.   He went on to graduate from South Central Technical College in Mankato with a degree in Agriculture Business.   Brent married Lianne Preuss on February 20, 1999 at the Evangelical United Methodist Church in Waseca and together they raised their family in rural New Richland.

Farming was Brent’s passion.   At an early age, he began farming with his parents and grandpa learning how to crop farm on the family farm. At the age of 15, he grew a love of hogs and in 1994, he built his first hog barn.  His love for the land was evident.  He received multiple awards including: the Young Farmer of the Year in 2004, Farm Family of the Year in 2014, and the Conservation Farmer of the Year in 2016.    When he wasn’t thinking about farming, Brent loved bowling, golfing, snowmobiling, and spending time with his family.   He loved to travel with his family, especially to the National Parks.  He also enjoyed camping, going up north in the summer, and collecting tractors – both big and small.  Brent was strong in his faith and devotion to the Lord and often shared his faith with others.  He was a member of Hosanna Lutheran Church in Mankato.

He is survived by his wife, Lianne; three children, Bayli (Adam Kuball), Kyra (Christian Ottati), and Braxtyn (Kennedy Jewison); and one granddaughter, Margaret.  He is also survived by his parents, Richard and Sharon Possin; one sister, Mandy Possin; mother-in-law, Carol Preuss; brother-in-law, Jeff Preuss; sister-in-law, Lisa Preuss; and nephews.   He was preceded in death by his grandparents and father-in-law, Richard Preuss.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 4, 2024 from 1-5 PM at the State Street Chapel of Dennis-Steffel-Omtvedt Funeral and Cremation Service in Waseca.  Visitation will continue on Monday, one hour before services at the church.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 5, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Hosanna Lutheran Church in Mankato.  Burial will follow at First Lutheran Cemetery in Waldorf.   dsofuneral.com
