Joyce Reese, 97, of New Richland, peacefully passed away on Thursday, November 9, 2023, at the New Richland Care Center with his family by his side.

Born on August 30, 1926, in rural Steele County, he was a son of the late Oscar and Nora (Bakken) Reese. Raised on a family farm, Joyce's love for farming began at an early age. On April 8, 1947, he married the love of his life, Theresa (Behne) Reese, in Claremont, MN. Together, they shared 72 years and were blessed with four children: Janine, Dawn, Peggy, and Jeff. In 1963, Joyce and Theresa settled on a farm in New Richland. Gifted two cows and two hogs by his parents, Joyce began his own agricultural pursuit and tended to the land with immense care.

A devoted husband, a respected member of the community, and a beloved father, Joyce lived a life filled with integrity and dedication. Known for his unwavering work ethic, Joyce’s commitment to farming brought him respect within the community, and his generosity knew no bounds. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to neighbors and friends, embodying the true spirit of community kindness.

Beyond the fields, Joyce found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He and Theresa shared a love for dancing, finding joy in the graceful steps of Polka and Waltz. Their bond on the dance floor was a reflection of the deep love they shared throughout their lives. Joyce's love for cars was no secret, and he delighted in taking road trips with Theresa to explore new horizons. One of their favorite destinations was Apache Junction, Arizona, where they spent their winters for many years.

Family was of utmost importance to Joyce, and he embraced his role as a grandpa, great-grandpa, and great-great-grandpa. His grandchildren will forever cherish the fond memories of tractor rides, where Joyce would proudly showcase his farming expertise, instilling in them a love for the land and its bountiful offerings.

Joyce Reese will be dearly missed by his children, Janine (Bruce) Babcock, of New Hampton, Iowa, Dawn (Dale) Halgren, of New Richland, MN, and Jeff Reese, of New Richland, MN; grandchildren, Chris Babcock, Amy (Carl) Snowden, Cambria (Ben) Fladager, Tyler (Tia) Halgren, Calli (Ryan) Miller, Brittney (Rich) Peters, Tasha (Bret) Cook, Cody Uecker, Joy (Josh) Reese-Drinkall, Dustin (Amanda) Reese and Jacey Reese; 17 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren, including one due in February 2024; a sister-in-law, Norma Behne; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Oscar and Nora, and his wife of 72 years, Theresa, Joyce was proceeded in death by a daughter, Peggy Uecker; son-in-law, Al Schubert; a grandson, Cazzie Reese; and a daughter-in-law, Carol Reese.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00AM on Saturday, November 18, 2023, at Trinity Lutheran Church in New Richland, with Pastor Mary Iverson officiating. The family will receive friends at a visitation to be held from 9-11:00AM at church. Burial will be held in St. Olaf Cemetery.
