Mary Ann Margaret Eckart, age 83, of Northfield, Minnesota, passed away peacefully, Thursday, May 11, 2023, at her home.  She was born December 25, 1939 in Charles City, IA to William Bartholomew Coughlin and Evelyn Otella (Johnson) Coughlin.

Mary Ann moved with her family to Minnesota in 1941, where they eventually settled in the Northfield area.  She attended High Prairie #50 country school and graduated from Northfield High School in 1957.

She was united in marriage to Ronald Eckart on June 6, 1959 at the Northfield Methodist Church.  Together they raised four children in Morgan, MN where Ronald was a teacher. She was very active in the community with her church and the scouting programs.  After Ron retired from teaching, they moved to her hometown onto a family farm, and eventually settling into her current home in Northfield. They spent time traveling coast-to-coast visiting family, friends, and relatives.

Mary Ann enjoyed sewing, gardening, canning, decorating for the holidays and seasons, and making fudge and candy for Christmas.  She was also an avid Minnesota sports fan, especially the Vikings and the Twins.  She is best remembered for her huge heart for sending cards and notes to relatives and friends on their birthdays, anniversaries, and holiday’s.  

She is survived by her children, Glen (Karen), Stan, and Lisa (John) Armour; sister-in-law Marilyn Meyer; brother-in-law Norman (Shari) Eckart; four grandchildren Daniel (Jaime) Armour, Richard Armour, Gerald Armour, Michael (Laura) Armour; two great-grandchildren Haeden Armour and Parker Armour; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mary Ann is preceded in death by her granddaughter Cassandra Eckart, brother-in-law’s Wayne and Carlyle Eckart, husband Ronald, mother Evelyn, brother Daniel, and father William.

A memorial service and interment will be scheduled for later this summer at Stanton Cemetery in Stanton, Minnesota.  Arrangements are with Bierman Funeral Home & Crematory, Northfield. www.biermanfuneralhome.com
