John Patrick McCrady, 70 years of age, passed away surrounded by family and music on April 3rd, 2023 in St. Louis Park, Minnesota.

He is survived by daughter Grace (husband Tom), stepson Matthew, grandchildren Asher, Chase, Logan and Sylvie, siblings Mary, Thomas, Mike and Ann and many other beloved family members.

John leaned into the joy in life and inspired others to do the same. He loved to sail Lake Minnetonka, and traveled often throughout the world. Bucerias, Mexico and Cuba were his recent favorite spots to take a break from the Minnesota cold. John was a fiercely supportive friend and family member. He was available whenever you needed help or just wanted to spend time with him, even if it meant spending the afternoon helping you hang a door, then meeting his teammates from Clad in Plaid for trivia, and later hitting a concert with another friend all in the same day. He didn’t just offer his support without meaning it, he often just showed up to help whether you asked him or not. Even though he had many friends, he made every single one feel like they were important, because they really were to him.

He was an avid music lover. His love for records, live shows, and music history taught others to embrace the joy of music, especially his family. He loved to browse old instruments at garage sales or online, often looking for the “right” guitar for Matthew. He showed up as a proud papa to almost every show Grace performed.

His experiences as a Grant Writer for Nonprofit Organizations offered him unique perspectives in life. Impacting others in a positive way was important to him. He was passionate about supporting the people of Haiti, rolling up his sleeves to offer his building skills, and hosting and supporting many fundraiser events. His passing will be felt by many.

A Funeral Service was held at 2 p.m. Visitation was on Friday, April 14 2023 at Kapala-Glodek-Malone Funeral Home in New Hope, MN. A Celebration of Life will also be scheduled in the coming months.
