Bott, Edward Lewis of Rochester died March 3, 2017.

He was pre-deceased by his parents, sister Vivian, and son Douglas. Survived by his wife of 51 years Donna (Wright), son Donald (Yi-Ju), daughter DeeAnne Shaw (Bob), and grandson Bobby.

Born November 22, 1931 to M. Walter and Viola Bott in Lawndale, CA, Ed grew up in Los Angeles and San Francisco. Graduating from Leuzinger High School and attending El Camino College, he worked for Northrop and was in the Naval Reserves.  He served in the Korean War with the US Army, returning to LA as a motorcycle officer with the Hawthorne police dept.

In 1965, he married Donna Wright, ‘the redhead’, and had three children: Donald, Douglas, and DeeAnne. In 1972, fulfilling his dream, he & Donna purchased St. Olaf Lake Resort in New Richland, MN, which they ran until 1986. They then moved to Northwood, IA, where he worked at Cummins until retiring in 1997. In 2008, they escaped the Midwest cold by moving to balmy Rochester, NY.

Ed loved to tinker, and could fix most anything. He greatly enjoyed woodworking, especially making pens and bobbins for local knitters.   He loved ballroom dancing, and could be found nearly every weekend at the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, IA. Ed was active in lions, serving as a District Governor in Iowa, and joining the Irondequoit Lions club in Rochester. He and Donna greatly enjoyed being part of the Lions Sight program, vision-screening thousands of pre-schoolers. Later in life, he loved to travel, visiting most of the continents on various trips and cruises.

Calling hours will be Monday from 4-6 p.m. at Crawford Funeral Home (495 N Winton). Funeral services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Incarnate Word Lutheran Church (597 East Ave). In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Irondequoit Lions club.
