Dorothy I. Loken, age 99 of Waseca died on Thursday, January 12, 2017 at Lake Shore Inn in Waseca.

Born on November 16, 1917 in Nobles County, Minnesota, she was the daughter of Joseph P. and Mary (Obertine) Walter. Dorothy attended country school and married Arthur M. Loken on September 21, 1938 in Steele County. Dorothy and Art purchased a farm north of St. Olaf Lake. Truly a farmer’s wife, she helped with chores, in the field, and raising orphaned animals. She was an avid cook and baker, making a variety of goodies, lefse and holiday treats for family and others. She sewed clothing, made drapes, painted and redecorated their home. Dorothy also worked at the E.F. Johnson Co. after her children were grown.

In the early ‘70s, after 35 years of farming, they retired, sold their farm and moved to Arizona due to Art’s health. Taking an interest in ceramics, crafts and plastic canvas kept them busy. During the summer months, they spent time back in Minnesota enjoying life at Leech Lake and spending time with family at their homes.

Art passed away in 1991 and she moved back to Minnesota in 1993, living at Real Life until moving to Maple Terrace. She spent time with a special friend in Argyle, MN for six year until his passing. Returning to Waseca, she remained active continuing most interest until poor circulation required the amputation of four toes. She made her home at Lake Shore Inn from August 23, 2011 until her passing. She was a former member of LeSueur River Lutheran Church where she had taught Sunday School and was active with the Ladies Aid, Mission Circle and Altar Guild.

She is survived by two children, Roger (Janet) Loken of Rochester and Barbara Clausen of Waseca; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; step-father; husband; son-in-law, Doug Clausen; eight brothers; and one sister.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at 2 p.m. at Dennis Funeral & Cremation Services in Waseca. Visitation will be held on Saturday, one hour before services at the funeral home. Burial will be at Le Sueur River Lutheran Cemetery.
