Francis “Gene” Eugene Motl, age 92, passed away, August 19, 2016, at Prairie Manor Care Center, in Blooming Prairie. Friends may greet the family from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, August 24, 2016, at the Brick-Meger Funeral Home (1603 Austin Road, Owatonna) and one hour prior to the funeral at the church. Funeral Mass is set for 10:30 a.m. Thursday, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Litomysl. A parish rosary will be recited at 3:45 p.m. at the funeral home on Wednesday. Interment will take place at the church cemetery.

Born May 11, 1924, to parents Frank and Evelyn (Lynard) Motl, in Lemond Township. Gene attended country school before helping out on the family dairy farm. He married Virgina Balzer  in the summer of 1946, and they raised four children. Gene was a dairy farmer all of his life, people called him Grandpa Green. He loved his family and his John Deere Tractors. Gene was on the Union Creamery Board for many years and was a member of the NFO and Farmers Union.

Gene enjoyed dancing to old time music with Virginia and their friends. As a couple they delivered meals on wheels. Gene enjoyed working with his grandchildren and teaching them to drive at very young ages.

Gene is survived by his children, Larry (Pat) Motl of Ellendale, Dale (Annette) Motl, Blooming Prairie, Mike (Cathy) Motl, of Blooming Prairie, Mary Motl (Gary Johnson), Owatonna; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Sloan, Williston, ND; sister-in-laws, Alice Resler, Owatonna, Bernice Wesley, Hope; one Aunt, Ione Betlach, Blooming Prairie; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by parents, wife, Virginia, who he was married to for 67 years, a granddaughter, Amanda Motl; one sister, Elaine Zwiener, and brother and sister-in laws.
