Memorial services for Ervin Himmerich will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 11 at Trinity Lutheran Church in New Richland. Reverend Paul Andree will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at church. Military honors will be accorded by the New Richland Area Veterans.

Ervin Himmerich of New Richland passed away Thursday July 7, 2016 at New Richland Care Center. He was 86 years old. Ervin was born October 28, 1929 to Henry and Katherine (Wiekum) Himmerich in Linton, North Dakota. He married the love of his life, Bernice Jensrud, on July 3, 1949 in Esmond, ND.

In October of 1945, Ervin entered the Navy and served for two years. After discharge, Erv started working for Land-O-Lakes at the hatchery in Valley City, ND for six years. For the next 13 years, Erv worked at Shetlers Hatchery in Thief River Falls, MN. He then came to work at the egg plant in New Richland for 14 years. Erv held custodian jobs at the NR School District and the bank in his later years.

Ervin enjoyed being involved in church council over the years, traveling with family, and woodworking in his spare time. He even made each granddaughter a cedar chest.

Survivors include his wife, Bernice; daughter, Lynn Gates of Arena, WI; sons, Gary (Gail) Himmerich of Byron, MN and Bruce (Janet) Himmerich of Albert Lea, MN; eight granddaughters, Kelly, Heather, Breanna, Megan, Sara, Melanie, Danielle, and Ashley; 13 great-grandchildren, Karlie, Blake, Caleb, Noah, Faith, Brian, Eliza, Ian, Calvin, Felicity, Isaac, Ingrid, and Paige; brothers, Herbert (Jean) Himmerich of San Luis Obispo, CA and Melvin Himmerich of Tacoma, WA; brother-in-law, Wayne Spriggle of Longview, WA.

Ervin was preceded in death by his parents, Henry & Katherine; brothers and sisters, Hank (Margaret) Himmerich, Lucile (Harry) Meath, Art Himmerich, Amy (Arnold) Anderson, Alma (Ray) Handy, Herman (Laurel) Himmerich, and Eileen Spriggle; son-in-law, Albert Gates; and sister-in-law, Jesse Himmerich.
