I’ve been trying to think of new ideas for content here at the newspaper. It’s hard to think of something new that the newspaper hasn’t tried in its 135 year history. But nonetheless here I am trying and in this case, writing about it.

One of my ideas would piggy-back off of something we already do a section on every week. Looking back. We go back 100, 75, 50 and 25 years and find newspaper clippings and Jessica compiles them into a list. She does an excellent job and every week she stops and has to read me something she’s read that pertains to the current times we live in. Anyways, back to my point, I was thinking we could run old stories from those newspapers. An entire article, kind of like we do for Moments in Time or Heritage Bits, but with an entire story. I brought up a similar idea to Tracy Holland and he seemed to like the idea.

“Now be careful. It’s me you're talking to; I like all that old stuff,” Tracy Holland said when I asked him what he thought of us printing a special edition of the Star Eagle.

My idea was pretty simple. Print an edition of the Star Eagle in the format they did 50 years ago. I would like to see if we could even get the paper the same color as the old newspapers look here. It adds such a cool atmosphere to looking at the old papers. Nostalgia, that is the word I am looking for. I doubt we’re gonna end up doing this idea because it would be a lot of work.

I wanted to run stories with the history of New Richland, Ellendale and the surrounding areas as well as the businesses that have been around the longest. I brought the idea up to my mom and all she could say was it would be a lot of work. I don’t understand why more work should stop us from doing something new, or in this case, something old. I’m not sure, but I do know I would love your feedback on what you think about this idea. Do you think it would be a good idea or would you rather we just keep putting out the newspaper the way we do every week?

I know which one I would like to do, but we will see what the rest of the office thinks. I have yet to bring the idea up to Reed, who would most certainly be responsible and crucial for this idea to come to fruition.

Thought for the week: Don’t forget to enjoy nostalgia when the opportunity presents itself.
