Over the past couple months, as we are riveted to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, I’ve been sharing some of the song parodies I created with my homebound readers.  Here’s one last blast of quarantine songs. I hope you can find a smile amidst the chaos.

The first song for you this week is from the Disney movie Beauty and the Beast. This is “Be Our Guest.” Sing along!

Be our guest, be our guest

Put Zoom service to the test

Try and scrub at least your neck, cherie

You're on the Internet

Family, and some friends

Why, we all can join the room

Talking over each other

Can't believe it, it's not doom

You can sing, you can dance

Just make sure you're wearing pants

And maybe brush out your hair's rats' nest

Go on, log into Zoom

Take a glance and then you'll

Be our guest, be our guest

Be our guest!

Or Google Hangouts too

Can provide a safe space

We'll prepare and send an invite

Our tech is in a race

You're alone and you're scared

But the Hangout's all prepared

No one's gloomy or complaining

When your family's entertaining

We tell jokes, I do tricks

You might juggle candlesticks

And it's all in perfect taste, that you can bet

Come on and lift your glass

You've won your own free pass

To be our guest, if you're stressed

It's tech chat rooms we suggest

Be our guest, be our guest

Be our guest!

How about the theme song from The Brady Bunch? You all know that one, right?

Here's a story of a nasty virus

That was making people sick all over the globe

All of them had bad symptoms, it was trouble

It drove us to our homes

Here's a story, of a doc named Fauci

Who was busy with telling us the truth

He and others were talking science

While others laid the blame

Till one day when the leaders of the states,

Oh, they knew that it was much more than a hunch

That our groups must somehow social distance

That's the way we're stuck with just our family bunch

COVID-19, COVID-19

That's the way we became all quarantined!

One last song this week. This was made popular again by being part of Guardians of the Galaxy, but it was originally by Blue Swede. This is “Hooked on a Feeling.”

Ooga-COVID, Ooga Ooga

Ooga-COVID, Ooga Ooga

Ooga-COVID, Ooga Ooga

Ooga-COVID, Ooga Ooga

I can't stop this virus

Deep inside of me

Doc, I know you realize

What it does to me

When I read it

Hold my tablet tight

You'll let me know when

Everything's all right

I'm hooked on corona

I'm high on believing

That it will go away

News as sweet as candy

Headlines stay on my mind

Wow, you got me thirsty

For another chart online

Got a bug from the news

They're searching for a cure

I just keep on reading

So I can be sure

I don't love it when I'm all alone

I keep reading

The news turns me on

I'm hooked on corona

I'm high on believing

That it will go away

Next week, I promise I will not focus on the coronavirus. (I can’t guarantee I won’t mention it though.) I continue to hope you and yours are doing well.

Word of the Week: This week’s word is perforce, which means out of necessity, as in, “The columnist kept using the pandemic as a topic perforce, since it was the main thing on his mind.” Impress your friends and confuse your enemies!
