Genie, my boss of 60 years, is from Clear Lake, Iowa. The F.R.O.G. (Fully Rely on God) group from Central Freeborn Lutheran Church Rural, Albert Lea, Minnesota, has taken bus trips to “Christmas By the Lake” in Clear Lake, Iowa several times.

I have been going deer hunting many years by Walker, Minnesota, also fishing on Leech Lake, Walker, Minnesota.

In stopping at the chamber office in Walker, I have gotten to know many of the office employees at both chambers. (Also they sit by each other at a major chamber convention.)

In stopping in while deer hunting this November to visit the Walker chamber employees, they asked me to help them promote Walker. I’m asked to find at least five employees who are the kind of employee who promotes Walker.

I’m not sure what the Walker Chamber has in mind. Even so, I say, “okay.” For example:

1. The checkers at Super-One Foods, especially Lynn, has she told me about the free Veterans’ meal at the Damsite Supper Club in Pine River.

2. Deb, the customer relations person at First National Bank. I asked Deb where she learned her great public relations. From her Mom, Darlene, she replied with a big smile!

3. Jen, office manager at Blue Water Lodge, and now also “Chase on the Lake.” I’ve known Jen for years, good enough to know God threw away the pattern in making her. (Also as an Awesome Blossom from Blooming Prairie, Minnesota.)

4. The lady at the Walker Post Office who gave me back a quarter and a dime after I gave her a dollar for a 66¢ stamp.

5. Michael, the server-Bartender at Shingobee Restaurant on Leech Lake. He took my food order back and rushed it through when he noticed the order was wrong!!

I must comment on why Genie and I, plus son Daniel of Buffalo, New York, were staying at Blue Water Lodge on Leech Lake, Walker, MN. We were there the entire deer hunting season to verify there weren’t any or very few deer to be seen. Craig Sterle a retired department of Natural Resources, said it best. “If I saw a deer, it would be like shooting the last buffalo.”

While staying at Blue Lodge, we feed birds and critters, plus saw eagles tundra swans, Canadian geese, plus lots of ducks. Even two gray squirrels and two black squirrels.

If you like to watch stars in the sky, they are very plentiful. You can see them from where you sleep, even the Big Dipper.

By now, you know this is one of my favorite places to stay.

Things every Minnesotan should know:

A. 2,749 lbs. was the largest pumpkin raised in 2023. What state was it raised it in? If you guessed Hawaii, you were wrong. If you said Minnesota, you were right.

B. What state raised the most turkeys in 2023? If you said Texas you were wrong. If you said Iowa, you’re still wrong. If you said Minnesota, you’re right.

C, Who is the most enjoyable professional football? Hint: they also have purple and gold uniforms with a Dobby inside one of the uniforms.
