We arrive home in Albert Lea Monday evening the 27th of March after being gone visiting to Arkansas for a week.

It takes us about two days for every two days being gone to get back into the swing of things. Thus, we were able to do Reader’s Theater at Halverson School on the 29th and Hawthorne School on the 30th. (Both schools are in Albert Lea). Reader’s Theater is where older adults read and play act to the Albert Lea schools’ grades, Kindergarten through third grade.

Genie and I both admit we enjoy performing just as much as – maybe more than – the kids in the audience enjoy our performance. (Beth Spande of Albert Lea is the Young at Heart Older in Age leader.)

As readers, our main thing is to perform only to those with their imagination turned on!!

We attended the Steven Thompson open house memorial service Saturday, April 1st at Bayview Funeral Home in Albert Lea.

After Sunday service at Central Freeborn Lutheran Church on April 2nd, we purchased lunch at KFC in Albert Lea. We enjoyed the lunch while watching the Twins playing a good game.

After the game Genie became ill with a bad cough, runny nose and feeling like a truck ran over her. I came down with the feeling of being hit by the same truck on Tuesday the 4th of April. We both managed to recover and attend the Celebration of Life Service for Evelyn Carlson held Monday, April 10th at Central Freeborn Lutheran Church.

Evelyn was-is a great lady. She was one of the First Central Lutheran Church members to welcome us when we joined “her” church in 1974. Evelyn was a well-known knitter of prayer shawls and baker of (secret) recipe chocolate chip cookies.

Many thanks to Evelyn for letting Genie and me be part of her Celebration of Life on this great earth created by God.

Short Shorts:

1. During our recover after feeling like being run over by a truck, we watched the Masters’ Golf Tournament on TV. One of the golfers had the problem of his golf ball ending up in a sand trap to which the TV announcer said, “That’s what the Norwegians call an “Uff-da.”

2. The “Run Over by a Truck” feeling caused Genie and me to miss the Good Friday – Easter Sunday in-person church service. We enjoyed  the TV Channel 6 Sunday service put on by First Lutheran Church of Albert Lea. For that, we were very thankful.

3. 2023 weather after winter:

A. The wait for a temp in the 70’s in 2023 lasted 159 days (til April 22).

B. The high temp was 80 on April 11th.

C. the high temp was  88 on April 12th.

D. The high temp was 84 on April 13th.

E. The high temp was 84 on April 14th.

F. Drop of 50 degrees in 24 hours with snow.

4. Bev Indrelie was the $20 Bill winner of the “Guess When All the Snow is Gone on the West Side of the Parking Lot at Central Freeborn Lutheran Church, Rural Albert Lea.”

5. Let a veteran make you feel good after thanking the veterans for their service – especially on Poppy Day, May 26.
