For Father’s Day I received 2 separate cups (one for traveling one, for morning coffee) delivered on different days. Both cups have the same warning on the side, “Careful or you’ll end up in my next article.” Both cups have a sticker under the bottoms stating “Made in China.” Thanks, Dan, for a “great Father’s Day gift.”

Just when you think you’ve seen it all, you see something unusual. A house on Lakewood Avenue in Albert Lea has two lawn signs as to who they want you to vote for. One is Dale Glazier the other is Ryan Shea. Both are candidates for Freeborn County Sheriff. Wouldn’t it be great if there would be peace in the family!!

The mother of last year’s family wave contest winner stopped me on my morning walk and says “How about a birthday treat; my birthday was yesterday.” I confusingly say “Ok, Chelsey,” thinking she wants a birthday present. She hands me a huge bakery roll with lots of frosting on top as she says, “You must share with Genie just like on my birthday last year when I gave you a roll.” I walk away, a confused old Norwegian with a huge bakery roll as I say thanks. (Yes, the roll was delicious!!)

Genie received the following on a card prior to her cancer of the right lung surgery at Mercy Hospital in Mason City, Iowa on July 6, 2022. The title is “Try To.”

“Try to be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind.

Try to talk health, happiness and prosperity to every person you meet.

Try to make all your friends feel there is something in them.

Try to look at the sunny side of everything and make your optimism come true.

Try to think only the best, to work only for the best and to expect only the best.

Try to be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own.

Try to forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future.

Try to wear a cheerful countenance at all times and give every living creature you meet a smile.

Try to give so much time to the improvement of yourself that you have no time to criticize others.

Try to be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear and too happy to permit the presence of trouble.

Try to think well of yourself and to proclaim this fact to the world not in loud words but great deeds.

Try to live in faith that the whole world is on your side so long as you are true to the best that is in you.”

P.S. Genie’s zoom friends sent her a message just before her surgery stating, “You are in a bubble of love.”
