The bad news is the date of September 22 is the first day of fall. The good news is Indian Summer will be here shortly thereafter. Indian Summer is defined as the days after the first kill frost of about 26 degrees when temperatures will reach the high 60s and low 70s daily for as long as six days.

The statistics are in for the motorcycle rally that was held in Sturgis, South Dakota. About 300 of the 5,000 attendees have tested positive for the virus. It was recommended that each attendee quarantine for at least 14 days after leaving Sturgis, whether or not testing positive.

The corona virus has caused some occupations to be very busy. One such occupation is the law field, or attorneys. Parents, and especially grandparents, are requesting a codicil to their will. A codicil is an addition to their will specifying something, in most cases elimination of an heir in the will if the heir didn’t follow the recommended virus preventions. Also, in a family owned business, not following the virus recommended preventions is a violation of employment, thus making the heir no longer an employee. My take on all this: if you’re an heir, don’t make a virus-related error.

The hottest settling item is currently facemasks. They are in different shapes, colors, strengths, etc. There are sports masks, political masks, occupational mask, masks with a message, masks constructed according to your liking. You name it and that mask will be made. The two best I’ve seen have been the message, “Bye Don, Hello Joe,” or “Bobs Matter.”

If you’re looking for an interesting TV program, check out “What You Need to Know,” by Good Morning America Monday through Friday on channel 6 TV out of Austin, Minnesota from 12 noon to 1 p.m.

Many of you have seen a Major League Baseball game on TV where the fan in the stand is a life-size cutout of some person. Per the coronavirus rules, no live fans are allowed at a high school swimming event. The boys’ swimming team from a high school in Iowa solved the problem of moms and dads not being allowed in the stands at their swim meets. The team performs with life-size cutouts of their moms and dads in the stands watching each meet. (Another example of if you’re dealt a lemon, make lemonade out of it.)

Many thanks to fellow columnist Mark Domeier for the excellent column of Suzy and Bobby, students at NRHEG and their going back to school schedule while complying with the coronavirus rulings. (My CEO, Genie, asked me to state she also really enjoyed it.)

Riots, vandalism, looting, shootings, political mudslinging, it’s almost too much for this octogenarian Norwegian to handle. I’m most certainly going to exercise my right to vote – “By mail, over 18 years of age.”

P.S. ‘Tis the season of orange landscaping. Orange you glad?
