I hope you can stand two weeks in a row of short shorts. Yes, some are fact and some are fiction – you decide.

1. Sunday August 2 is “Friendship Day.” A good example would be, “Yield to the other vehicle driver (even though you have the right-of-way) with a smile.”

2. Got tummy flab, there are seven popular walks in Albert Lea to reduce the flab: 1. Mayo Clinic Health System South Broadway. 3. Family Y. 4. Northbridge Mall. 5. Skyline Mall. 6. Blazing Startrial. 7. Blue fones walkway (my favorite).

3. We have a crow with a stubby tail feeding on scraps we put out for birds. It is comical to see him landing as many times no tail causes a fall forward or fall backward in landing.

4. Genie and I enjoyed the drive-in movie hosted by the Albert Lea Parks and Recreation department at the Albert Lea City Arena. The movie was “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood,” featuring Mr. Rogers as he promoted friendship. One or two more drive-in movies will be hosted this summer by the Albert Lea Park and Rec.

5. Disc golf has really become popular, there are at least seven courses in the area. Oak Island at Bancroft Bay Park, Tall Grass at Bancroft Bay Park, Clarks Grove City Park, North Park Alden, Oakwood Park in Lake Mills, Riverland Community in Albert lea, Swensrud Park-Hurd park in Northwood. (If you find a twins disc with the name “Bob” in the tall grass at Bancroft Bay Park – it’s mine.)

6. Take a drive to the South Side of Albert Lea Lake. Notice the Pelicans feeding on the electrical shocked fish at the Juoland Dam.

7. The Question of public schooling or no public schooling is not the question. The question is “How to have public schooling?”

8. There are not summer Winnebago type campers allowed in the freeborn county fairgrounds this summer. That means all the squirrels living there had to find a new source of food. (I counted 17. My neighbor counted 16 in the back yard. To solve the problem one neighbor quit feeding birds, one neighbor bought a squirrel chasing dog and I’m relocating them. (The three of us live next to the fairgrounds.)

The LeSuer River Lutheran Church founding fathers were sharpies as they established a position on the church council to be filled by a member with common sense to difficult situations. The position is currently held by Lena. Her latest common sense solution was: The church was having a food dinner with place settings. Both reverend Woyen’s were attending which became a problem as to what to put on the place setting. Lena, in her common sense position on the church council, solved the problem. She put (him) behind one setting and (her) behind the other setting that said Rev. Woyen.

Lena was asked if the Coronavirus will cause more or less babies than normal. Her answer was, “Ole and I are “Yust” doing what comes naturally.”

P.S. There is no “J” in the Norwegian English Language. Thus just become yust.

P.S.S. The Lord most certainly had a room prepared for Barb Grunwald. Barb thanks for all the help and fun times.

Bob is a retired AAL (Aid Association for Lutherans) agent, currently working on his master’s degree in Volunteering. His wife, Genie, is a retired RN, currently working on her doctor’s degree in Volunteering. They have two children, Deb in North Carolina, and Dan in Vermont. Bob says if you enjoy his column, let him know. If you don’t enjoy it, keep on reading, it can get worse. Words of wisdom: There is always room for God.
