It’s time for another “running of the words” column, so here goes:

I found a registered mail notice in our mailbox to stop at the Albert Lea Post Office to sign for it before it could be delivered. I stopped in, signed for a small box addressed to Octogenarian Bob. The address on the box was stamped “Garrison, MN.” (There is a big fake walleye on the shore of Mille Lacs Lake at Garrison.) Inside the box was a small plastic walleye with its mouth open to form a soft clamp. On the side of the plastic walleye were the words “Snore no more.” The instructions were to place the soft clamp over one’s nose when retiring. On the clamp the words were “Made in Minnesota.” I don’t know who sent this. Genie says, “Thanks!”

Between now and February 28, you can purchase this paper, delivered to a Waseca, Freeborn or Steele County address for $25 for a year. Buying this paper just to read this column may not be a smart buy, but my fellow columnists will cover my back.

As an example, Mark Domeier’s column from Jan. 24. As a biased columnist, I will pit the Star Eagle columnists against any other newspaper. If you agree we will win, a letter to the Star Eagle Editor is in order.

“Weather will be weather whether you like or not” was most certainly a true statement this January. Albert Lea weather-related events made TV on the Weather Channel plus Good Morning America. If you told me the US mail wouldn’t be delivered because of the weather, my reaction would be, “No way.”

Yes, there was no U.S. mail delivery on Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2019 (55-below wind chill). Did you notice the great sundogs? A brilliant rainbow of colors.

Did you know that every great lady has a greater grandmother behind her? A classic example is a mentor, volunteer and outreach coordinator at the United Way of Freeborn County, chore services manager at Senior Resources of Freeborn County. Her name is Katelyn Tollefson. The greater grandmother goes by the handle of Kathryn Tollefson. And now you know! (Yes, they are both of good Norwegian stock, Kathryn, nee Johnson, is a graduate of NRHEG.)

I received a January birthday card from two friends in Waseca for my 2018 birthday. I received an identical card from the same two people for my January 2019 birthday. The only thing I can figure out is Russ got a discount for buying multiples of the same card, and now it is up to Marie to use them.

Many of you have been to Otisco, Berlin, Lemond and other townships. Have you ever been to Norwegian Township? You can’t find it in Minnesota because it’s in Pennsylvania.

We saw the following letters on the back of the cab of an 18-wheeler tractor: “Wherever I may roam.”

It would be interesting to hear any of your “unusual” weather events the week of the Southern Minnesota cold snap at the end of January this year. Do you suppose the Star Eagle editor could compose an article of unusual weather events from that week?

Look at the date of the paper as you read this. Did February 14 have any special significance in your life?
