I went on an ultimate bus trip to Door County, Wisconsin.

Four Season’s Annual Girlfriends Getaway from Albert Lea with 46 beautiful women ready for fun and shopping. We were led by our fearless leader, Cindy Meany, on Saturday, August 18.

On the way we had lunch at the Nautie Turtle in Fremont, Wisconsin. It was a lovely sunny day and we ate on the deck by the waterfront. Lots of people enjoying their boats.

Rowley’s Bay Resort in Ellison Bay, Wisconsin was our destination for three nights. The owner, a lady, boarded the bus and welcomed us.

For supper we enjoyed a storyteller before an authentic fish boil. The storyteller was very entertaining, telling us about the history of the area. Boiled fish was done outside in front of all the guests. The fire was spectacular, but boiled white fish is not my favorite. The supper buffet was awesome, with other meats, salads, fruit and pastries. The motel has its own Swedish bakery: yum! A bonfire after supper and s’mores were our extra dessert.

My friend Julie and I retired to our room with the lake view - Green Bay Lake.

Sunday, August 19, we went to this huge breakfast buffet - so much food! We didn’t go hungry on this trip!

Sister Bay Village was our next stop for a cruise on Green Bay. Our captain gave a fun and interesting commentary on this part of Green Bay and its history. We saw a bald eagle and a loon. The lake has good fishing, too.

Another sunny day to explore; shops and eatries galore. Good ice cream and pastries, lots of Swedish dishes. There are no chain stores allowed in Door County - all entrepreneurs.

Fish Creek was next for an afternoon art project. We painted on clear vases or glasses. This art studio has four barn-like structures, each containing a different type of art: metal (involves welding), glass and ceramic, oil painting, and glass art.

Rowley’s had a buffet supper and we had a girlfriend game night. We bowled as teams with inflated, oversized bowling balls and pins. Lots of laughter. Game night included dirty bingo for small gifts and a game of five teams. As a team we threw ping pong balls that were covered with Velcro at our fearless team leader wearing a pink hat covered with Velcro to catch the balls. Most balls caught by team won. Lots of fun and laughter.

Monday, August 20, we were up for buffet breakfast - again, lots to eat. Their pecan caramel rolls were delicious.

Koepsel’s Farm Market, oldest farm market in Door County, started in 1958. Our bus driver opened the bus compartments to store all our goodies. Lots of tasting stations for peanut butter, honey, jams, and jellies. They are famous for two through 12 year old aged Wisconsin cheddar cheese. Huge place! We did our best to fill the bus underneath.

After Koepsel’s we went to Eggttarbor for lunch on our own. Julie and I headed for goats on the roof restaurant, Al Johnson’s. A 90 minute wait for lunch so we looked in the gift “Butik.” Items from all over Scandinavia.

Supper was in Fish Creek and more shops. Uffda! Almost too much.

On to the Northern Sky Theater in Pennisula State Park, an outdoor theatre under the stars. A delightful musical called “Dairy Heirs” in rural setting. A funny “moosical” written and performed by a talented group of young people.

Tuesday, August 21, we said goodbye to Rowley’s Bay Resort and set out for home. We were from Iowa and Minnesota. Our oldest gal was 87. She told us so!

Stopped in Wisconsin Dells for lunch at Riverwalk Pub and took a group picture. We’re all ready to go next year!
