The NRHEG High School country teams traveled east last Thursday for the Hayfield Invitational.
"It was wonderful day for running, with much cooler temperatures," said Panthers coach Larry Nydegger.
And the NRHEG runners performed accordingly.
The meet got off to a great start with the combined boys and girls junior high race going first.
Julieann Wobbrock was the top finisher for the girls, taking first place in the 1.5-mile race with a time of 9:52. Ella Jeno was close behind, taking 11th place, completing the course in a time of 11:13. Owen Flatland finished with a time of 11:10 on the boys' side, good for 37th place.
For the varsity girls, Holly Bartness was NRHEG's top finish- er. She completed the 5-kilometer route with a personal best time of 22:58, which placed her 28th in the field of 77 runners. Madison Corkill and Amelia Duryee finished their first ever varsity races with times of 26:29 and 33:04, respectively.
The varsity boys' race had Devon Nelton and Jacob Karl both finishing in the top 10 with personal best times as well. Devon finished in seventh with a time of 18:08, Jacob in 10th with a time of 18:12. Jackson McGannon shaved nearly three minutes off his previous best time to take 52nd place with a time of 21:43.
"It was nice to finally be running in cooler temperatures," said coach Nydegger. "And I think that really helped the runners perform at their best today."
After a meet at Blooming Prairie Tuesday, the Panthers are in action Tuesday, Sept. 19 with their home invitational at Riverview Golf Course.
