As far as Dan Stork was concerned, only one thing really mattered last week: the football game Friday night.

All the festivities, parades and crownings don’t mean much, according to Stork, if you don’t cap Homecoming week with a win.

The Panthers did exactly that, crushing LeSueur-Henderson 35-14 while improving their record to 5-1.

Coach Stork, of course, had praise for his players, but he also had words of kindness for the opposition.

“I have to give LSH a lot of credit,” said Stork. “They're a solid team that plays very physical. Their coaching staff had their kids well prepared.”

But the Panthers, as they have been all season, were clearly the better team on the field, building a 21-7 halftime advantage and cruising to victory.

“We came out strong, but then we took our foot off the gas a little and lost focus,” said Stork. “Our kids played a little sluggish at times, but when we needed a big play the guys responded.”

Responding particularly well was senior wide receiver John Cole, who caught six passes for 134 yards and two touchdowns.

“John had another big night,” said Stork.

Quarterback Palmer Peterson was also hot, completing nine of 12 passes for 169 yards and one interception. Jason Jongbloedt ran for 152 yards on 21 carries and Perry Peterson gained 82 on 12 tries.

“Palmer was very efficient,” said Stork. “Jason and Perry continue to run the well and our line is playing well.”

Senior Karter Sletten led the defense with eight tackles. Chad Agrimson had 5.5.

“Karter had a great game defensively,” said Stork.

The coach also praised the efforts of the Panthers’ special teams, especially junior kicker Sam Prigge.

“Sam is crushing the ball on kickoffs and he was perfect on his PAT attempts tonight which is a huge weapon for us,” said Stork.

The Panthers remain one game back of unbeaten WEM in the district standings. They travel to Lake Crystal/Wellcome Memorial Friday, Oct. 2.
