Altrichter finishes atop conference

Last week was a tough and disappointing one for the NRHEG clay target squad.

Shooting in the final week of the fall season, the team saw some of their lowest scores posted. They only managed to put two scores in the top 10 for the week and only five scores above the 40 mark. At the same time, their only competition, Hermantown put together a phenomenal week scoring the most points of any team for the season.  The result was a 400-point swing between the teams which put the NRHEG squad solidly in second place.

"It was hard to watch the guys shoot so far below their usual performance," commented head coach Dan Sorum. "But this is what makes this sport unique and fun. There are no bench players and so there is little margin for error. This time it just did not work in our favor."

Despite the team results, there was some very nice individual news. Frank Altrichter finished the season with a 23.7 average for a round of 25. This makes him the top shooter in the conference which consists of approximately 180+ shooters. It also places him fifth in the state out of over 1500 shooters. Also in the top 25 were Sam Bartz (4), Collin Christenson (5), Tyler Raimann (7), Zach Eustice (9), Colton Hagen (15), Dylan Mosher (17), and Tory Christenson (25). Sam, Collin, and Tyler were also in the top 100 shooters. The NRHEG Cclay target team is managed through the Community Education department at NRHEG and consists of students from NRHEG, Waseca, and Albert Lea schools. In order to shoot, students must be at least 12 years of age and have their gun safety certification. Both boys and girls are welcome to shoot as this is a co-ed sport. A big thank you goes out to Randy Cirksena-State Farm for sponsoring the team shirts and to the Owatonna Gun Club for hosting the squad. The team will be back for the spring league in April of 2015. If any student is interested in joining, contact Dan Sorum at NRHEG High School.
