The NRHEG cross country teams traveled to the Montgomery Invitational for their second meet of the season Thursday, Sept. 4.

The boys finished 24th among 25 schools while the girls did not field a full squad.

Glencoe-Silver Lake won the boys’ division with 63 points. Waseca was second with 72. The Panthers had 683.

For the NRHEG boys: Tyler Schlaak, 84th, 19:54.6; Josh Fleming, 119th, 20:37.3; Brenden McMann, 151st, 22:31.2; Ben Lewer, 159th, 23:07.7; Aaron Seath, 170th, 26:23.4.

“It was extremely hot, but the boys performed well,” said Panthers coach Mike Weber. “Tyler took a minute from his time of last week, as did Josh. Brenden ran a tough race. Ben shaved off seconds from last week. Aaron took a minute and a half from his previous time. Overall, the boys are doing what they are supposed to – lowering times and improving. It was a tough crowd of competition in Montgomery, but I was happy with the effort of our guys.”

Mahtomedi won the girls’ division with 89 points, followed by Waseca with 93 and Waconia at 99. Twenty-one full squads competed.

For NRHEG: Katharine Lewer, 101st, 20:04; Missy Malakowsky, 111th, 20:31; Sandra Quezada, 114th, 20:47.

“The girls’ team is still dealing with injury and not having everyone competing, however, we had three good performances considering the unusual heat the runners faced during the meet,” said Coach Weber. “It was nice to see the runners close to one another and keeping pace with one another in the mass that sprinted the course at this giant meet.”
