Lundberg no-hits Glenville-Emmons

It was a nasty way to end an otherwise great week for the NRHEG softball team.

After mowing down two more opponents to improve to 8-2 overall, the Panthers hosted WEM Thursday, May 5 in a nonconference game and lost a 7-6 decision at Legion Field.

“This was definitely our worst played game,” said coach Wendy Schultz.

The Panthers struggled defensively with six errors and had trouble connecting with runners in scoring position.

“We came out flat and kept playing catch-up ball,” said Schultz. “We put ourselves in position to win but couldn’t quite pull it out.”

Gabby Muri was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs, Paige Knudson 2-for-4 with two runs and two stolen bases. Grace Johns tripled and drove in a run. Skylar Lembke had an RBI hit.

Anna Lundberg absorbed the pitching loss, allowing two earned runs on 11 hits. She struck out six and walked two.

The Panthers needed only five innings to 10-run the Wolverines at Glenville Tuesday, May 3.

Lundberg pitched her first career no-hitter, striking out nine and walking one.

Offensively: Johns 4-for-4, four runs, three RBIs; Lundberg 3-for-4, four RBIs; Rachel Collins 2-for-4, two runs, four stolen bases; Kayley Camerer 2-for-5, double; Torrie Stencel 1-for-3, two runs, one RBI; Lembke 1-for-3, three runs; Knudson three runs, three stolen bases.

“Anna did a great job pitching throwing a no-hitter,” said Schultz. “Defensively, we committed no errors, which is always nice.”

The Panthers breezed to victory at Wells behind a three-hitter by Lundberg Monday, May 2.

Offensively: Muri 2-for-2, two doubles, two RBIs, two runs; Knudson 2-for-3, double, three runs, one RBI, two stolen bases; Collins 1-for-2, three runs, two stolen bases; Johns 1-for-2, three runs, two stolen bases; Stencel 1-for-3, RBI; Lembke 1-for-3, RBI; Camerer 1-for-2, three RBIs, two runs.

“It was a good team win,” said Schiltz. “The girls played pretty good defense and made the routine plays. We were able to get on base and move ourselves around. Another nice night of pitching/catching.”
