Matthew C. Schlaak, age 31, of rural Sauk Centre, died unexpectedly Tuesday, October 27, 2015 at the CentraCare Health Hospital in Sauk Centre, Minnesota.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, November 1, 2015 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Grove Lake. Rev. Philip Beyersdorf will be officiating.  Interment will be in Grove Lake Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Sunday at the church.

Matthew Christopher Schlaak was born to Wayne and Nancy (Poock) Schlaak on January 3, 1984 in Waseca, Minnesota. Matt attended and graduated from BBE High school in 2002. Known to his family as a “sportsnut,” Matt spent most of his time cheering on Minnesota sports teams and when his team wasn’t doing well, he turned to the Food Network and began watching. Matt was always positive about his struggle with the effects of spina bifida and rarely complained.

He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Grove Lake.

Matthew will be deeply missed by his parents; brothers, Jonathan Schlaak of Sauk Centre, Timothy (Jennifer) Schlaak of Dundas, and Robert  Schlaak (Jodie Rud) of Northfield ; nephews, Jackson, Treyton, and Kaedon Schlaak; nieces, Kailey Schlaak, Evelyn and Anna Jordan; aunts and uncles, David Poock of Villard, Kathleen (Craig) Schuster of Faribault, Donald (JoAnn) Schlaak of Waseca, and Edward Schlaak of Morristown; cousins and many friends.

Matt was preceded in death by his grandparents, Earl and Freida Schlaak and Arthur and Louise Poock.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.  Some suggestions included: Trinity Lutheran Church of Grove Lake, Peace Lutheran Church, Faribault, BBE High School Athletic Department,  or The Humane Society.

Arrangements were made with Patton-Schad Funeral and Cremation Services of Sauk Centre.
