Hilda A. Dobberstein, age 96, of Waseca, formerly of New Richland, passed away on March 20, 2015 at Lake Shore Inn care facility in Waseca.

Hilda Anna (Billing) Dobberstein was born on March 25, 1918 at the home of her parents William and Ella (Schlaak) Billing in rural New Richland, Minnesota. She was made a child of God through baptism on April 21, 1918, administered by Peter Ernest Schlutz at the German Lutheran Church in New Richland. She was confirmed on April 9, 1933 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in New Richland by Pastor Elmer Ackermann.

She attended rural School District 78 in Waseca County, graduating on June 24, 1932.

She was united in marriage to George F. Dobberstein on April 12, 1943 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in New Richland by Pastor Liekauf. This union was blessed with four children: Betty, Wayne, Gary, and Ralph.

Hilda was a lifelong member of St. Peter’s Church in New Richland. She served as an officer in its various organizations as Sunday School teacher, Junior Lutheran Leader, a choir member, and being active in ELCW- mission circle and quilting group.

She was a homemaker. She lived on a farm with her husband George in Byron Township, moving into New Richland in 1987. She enjoyed music, sewing, gardening, keeping family records, and making scrapbooks. But most of all, the time she could spend with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren was most precious to her.

Hilda is survived by her children and their spouses: Wayne (Marie) of Ellendale, Gary (Deb) of Waseca, and Ralph (Cheryl) of New Richland, and daughter-in-law Lois Johnson of Owatonna; ten grandchildren: Mark (Tira) Dobberstein, Brent (Jessica) Dobberstein, Cody (Mindi) Dobberstein, Megan Dobberstein, Lori (James) Sodeman, Dustin Dobberstein, Amy (Casey) Nelson, Katie (Scott) Demmer, Sara (Mike) Lindstrom, Shawn (Jessica) Johnson; nine great-grandchildren: Derek Dobberstein; Taylor, Breyden, and Jacey Sodeman; Ben and Anna Dobberstein; Andy and Cali Nelson; and Isaac Demmer. She is also survived by one sister, Malinda Fennert of Waseca; two sisters-in-law, Mabel Dobberstein and Margaret Dobberstein; and many nieces and nephews.

Hilda was preceded in death by her husband, George in 1995; her daughter, Betty Johnson in 1993; her son-in-law, LaRuen Johnson in 2014; sisters, Hazel Brandt and Luella Herbst; her parents; and her brother Wallace who died in infancy.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 25, 2015 at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Richland, MN. Reverend Scott Williams will officiate. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, March 24, 2015 at Bonnerup-Friedrich Funeral Chapel in New Richland. Interment will be in St. Peter's Cemetery near New Richland.
