Funeral services for James “Jim” M. Thompson of Ellendale, MN, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 18, 2014 at the First Lutheran Church in Ellendale, MN. Pastor Richard Sliper will officiate. Visitation will be held Wednesday evening from 4 until 7 p.m. at the First Lutheran Church in Ellendale. Interment will be in the First Lutheran Cemetery in Ellendale.

James died Monday, September 15, 2014 at the New Richland Care Center. He was 92 years of age.

James was born April 11, 1922 in rural Ellendale the son of Henry and Clara (Anderson) Thompson. He graduated from Ellendale High School and on June 25, 1941 was united in marriage to Mardelyn L. Thompson. Together they made their home in Ellendale where he farmed, was active as a cattle dealer, owned a back hoe and tiling business and Thompson  Construction Co., where he built many homes in Ellendale.

James was an active member of the Eagles club for over 40 years, loved hunting and fishing, working his garden, chopping wood, playing the guitar and singing. He enjoyed his trips to the casino and horse racing.  Jim was also an active member of First Lutheran Church and served on the cemetery board.

Jim is survived by his wife Mardelyn, son Jerry and his wife Ginger of Ellendale, MN, granddaughters Christine (Tom) Krause, Carrie (Danny) Wichmann,  Carlie (Joseph) Sevcik and grandson-in-law Kevin Hamor. Five great grandchildren; Gabriel Thompson, Sophia Krause, Sierra Krause, Alexander Sevcik and Annabella Sevcik. Two sisters survive; Carol Larimore of Albert Lea, MN, Ann Klemmensen of Ellendale, MN, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter Cathy Hamor, sisters Oriet Grunwald, Alene Grunwald, Audrey Misgen,  and brother Henry Thompson.
