Funeral services for Gerrit Hoogenraad of Albert Lea, MN, will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at the St John’s Lutheran Home Chapel in Albert Lea, MN. Pastor Jeff Laeger-Hagemeister will officiate. Visitation is one hour prior to the service at the chapel. Interment will be in the Freeborn Cemetery, Freeborn, MN.

Gerrit died Saturday, April 12, 2014 at St John’s Lutheran Home in Albert Lea, MN. He was 67 years of age.

Gerrit was born March 4, 1947 in Breda, Netherlands the son of Aernout A. and Adriana P. (Hoogewerff) Hoogenraad. He immigrated to America in 1958 where he moved to Easton, MN, with his family. In 1961 he moved to Minnesota Lake, MN. Gerrit became a naturalized citizen May 1, 1967. He graduated from Minnesota Lake High School in 1966, Mankato State University and Gloucester Jr. College in New Jersey, where he received a Masters Degree in Political Science.

Gerrit worked for many years with Cotter and Company that later became True Value Hardware.

He is survived by his twin sister Mary Kay (Ralph) Malakowsky of Hartland, MN, sister Carla (Keith) Stern of Wells, MN, brothers John (Chris) Hoogenraad of Plymouth, MN, Karel (Mary) Hoogenraad of Hopkins, MN, Ted (Delphine) Hoogenraad of North Mankato, MN, Ad (Shirley) Hoogenraad of Overland Park, KS, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, niece Shelly Malakowsky, nephew Justin Hoogenraad and great nephew Derek Malakowsky.
