Remembering the life of Bonita L. Ackman

Funeral Services for Bonita L. Ackman, 94, of Waseca, MN, formerly of New Richland, will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 1, 2015 at Trinity Lutheran Church in New Richland. The Reverend Paul Andree will officiate. Interment will be in St. Olaf Cemetery. Friedrich-Bonnerup Funeral Service New Richland is assisting the family.

Bonita died surrounded by her family on Thursday, July 30, 2015 at the New Richland Care Center.

She was born on December 8, 1920, the daughter of Gustav C. and Lydia C. (Kietzer) Frank.

Bonita was born in Mankato, but her father died when she was 2, and when her mother remarried, the family moved and she grew up in Blackduck, MN. She was a graduate of Blackduck High School and then attended beauty school in Mankato. It was during this time that she met the love of her life, Harold Ackman, and they were married on November 18, 1943 at Trinity Lutheran Church in New Richland. Harold and Bonita lived, farmed, and raised their family northwest of New Richland. She used her beauty schooling to style the hair of her family and neighbors out of her home throughout the years.

Evelyn L. Standke, age 89 of New Richland died on Thursday, July 30, 2015 at the New Richland Care Center.

Born on December 12, 1925 in Byron Township, Waseca County, Minnesota, she was the daughter of Thomas and Mabel (Klemmensen) Anderson. She attended school in Owatonna and married Karl R. Standke Sr. on January 2, 1944 in Faribault. Over the years, Evelyn was employed with Birds Eye, E.F. Johnson Co., the Waseca Hospital, Tom’s Shoe Shop, and the New Richland Care Center. Evelyn enjoyed cooking, baking, reading and sewing. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Waseca, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Senior Citizens.

The funeral service for Kernel Knudson will be held Wednesday, July 29 at 11a.m. at Cross of Glory Lutheran Church, Hartland. Rev. Dr. Mark Hillmer will officiate. Interment will be in Hartland Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, July 28 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Bonnerup Funeral Service, Albert Lea, and one hour before the service at church.

Kernel died July 25, 2015 at Prairie Senior Cottages, Albert Lea, surrounded by his family. He was 16 days shy of his 90th birthday.

Kernel was born on August 10, 1925, on the Knudson farm homesteaded by his grandfather, Kittel, to Carl and Clara (Thofson) Knudson. He attended country school and graduated salutatorian from Freeborn High School, giving up his scholarship to the University of Minnesota because of family responsibilities.

Arnold C. “Arnie” Groskreutz, age 88, of Mankato, MN, formerly of Wells, MN, passed away Saturday, July 18, 2015 at Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato, MN. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, July 22, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Wells, officiated by Rev. Mary Iverson. Visitation will be Tuesday, July 21, 2015 from 4–7 p.m. at Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells, and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Interment will be in First Lutheran Cemetery in Waldorf. Military Honors will be accorded by the Wells Color Guard. Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home of Wells is in charge of arrangements. Funeral services for Dorothy Irene Christenson will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, July 20, 2015 at Seventh Day Adventist Church in Albert Lea. Pastor Marshall Bowers will officiate. Dorothy died Saturday, July 11 at Parkview Care Center in Buffalo.

Dorothy Irene Evans was born on December 16, 1923 at home in Medford, MN to John and Eva Grace Evans. 

She attended grades 1-3 in Medford, grades 4-8 in Matawan and grades 8-10 in New Richland, MN.

On August 23, 1941 she married Raymond Martin Christenson of Bath, MN at New Richland, MN. When Darlene was three months old (Feb. 1943) she took her baby by train to Portland/Vanport City, Oregon where Ray was working in the Swan Island Shipyards. They all came back to MN in August 1943 and lived in the home Ray built at Bath Township, MN.
