Annual event this weekend

A wagon train, antique tractor pull, tram rides on a historic Time Lane, and much more can be enjoyed for free at the 2014 Fall Fair, Sept. 13 and 14 at Farmamerica.

It’s the first time the annual event has had no admission charge, making it the perfect fall outing for families throughout the area.

“We want everyone to be able to experience the many attractions at Fall Fair, so we won’t be charging admission this year,” Farmamerica Executive Director Jim Gibson said. Also new this year is the Sheriff’s Posse Wagon Train Saturday, raising funds for youth with an impressive array of rigs and horses. Sunday’s main attraction is the antique tractor pull beginning at 11:30.

Beverly Durgan, Dean of the University of Minnesota Extension Service, is among this year’s special guests. She’ll speak on the impact of the Smith Lever Act on Minnesota agriculture at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Other attractions include the 19th century Peddlers Grove, tram rides around the mile-long Time Lane with interpreters at each historic stop on the tour, an 1860s baseball game with the Mankato Baltics, a helicopter drone demonstration, and a bounce house, Gypsy Horse, corn maze, and games for kids.

Food vendors include the Classic Kitchen, the Bee Hut Ice Cream Parlor, and the traditional Dad’s Belgian Waffle Breakfast Sunday from 8:30 to 12:30 to benefit the Waseca High School Band.

Fall Fair is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 13 and 14. More information is available at www.farmamerica.org.

Farmamerica is a non-profit organization established by the state legislature in 1978 as Minnesota’s Agricultural Interpretive Center, telling the story of agriculture through historical tours, educational programs, and family events. The 360-acre Farmamerica site is just off Highway 14 on County Road 2, west of Waseca.
