If you attended the benefit breakfast for little Isaiah Schutrop on Sunday, December 7th at the New Richland City Hall you were given as well as giving a gift. It was a big smile from a strong little boy who, along with his family, is dealing with a difficult medical situation, and thanked everyone for coming and donating to the event. The New Richland Lions Club, which numbers 31 members, were busy from 7 to 12:30 making and serving scrambled eggs, pancakes, French toast, sausage, orange juice, milk and coffee to the approximately 400 hungry attendants. There were three tables filed with roughly 100 items for the bake sale. People had made and donated lefse, pies, cookies, bars, breads, candies and many other delicious items to purchase, take home and later enjoy.

There were also about 100 items donated for the silent auction. Who could resist an autographed basketball from our own Carlie Wagner, a framed picture of the Minnesota Twins and one of Minnesota Vikings player, #84 Corderella Patterson, or Minnesota Gopher Basketball tickets?

And if that wasn't enough, Isaiah’s grandfather made and donated two beautiful nativity sets. There were also several large environmental photographs, including a Minnesota Loon, a ladyslipper flower, and another of a picture of an eagle that had been taken south of Hartland on Highway 13, each mounted in glass frames.

There was a table of Panther items, as well as a Blu-Ray player and a one-night stay at the Holiday Inn Express in the Twin Cities area.

The silent auction also included a number of gift-able items including many Christmas items. There were also a number of homemade quilts and fleece blankets; you name it, it was probably donated by the many great people and businesses from the area. And of course there were many gift certificates, along with donations of money and prayers.

All of the items that had been donated for the bake sale and silent auction were greatly appreciated, as were the many people who turned out to support the breakfast.

Proceeds from the breakfast, bake sale and silent auction are destined to keep Isaiah smiling, as well as help his family.

What a guy, Isaiah. We wish him well, and wish his entire family a very blessed Christmas this year!
