NRHEG boys top Southland, 83-63

The New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva boys’ basketball team was involved in a pair of revenge games last week.
The Panthers trounced Southland, the team that eliminated NRHEG in the opening round of tournament action a year ago, Jan. 20.
United South Central, a team that NRHEG defeated by one point in Wells earlier this season, bounced the Panthers on their home court Friday.

The New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva girls’ basketball team strengthened its number 1 ranking during the week.
The Panthers disposed of Gopher Conference foes Waterville-Elysian-Morristown and Blooming Prairie, before outlasting Minneapolis Washburn, to complete a three-win week.
NRHEG climbed to 7-0 in the conference and 14-0 for the year. The Panthers stretched their win streak to 44 games.

NEW RICHLAND – NRHEG jumped on WEM early and rolled to a 75-39 victory over the Buccaneers in New Richland Jan. 14.
Gabe Hauer’s Bucs fell to 3-2 in the conference and 7-5 for the year.

Panthers host Grizzles Friday with conference crown on the line

HUTCHINSON – The New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva faced some of its toughest competition of the season Saturday.
In addition to three-time state champ Jackson, the field at Hutchinson included ranked teams Prior Lake, Atwater-Cosmos-Grove, Willmar and Hutchinson.
“We knew the competition was as tough as any we will face all year. We were hoping to be competitive in a difficult situation,” said NRHEG coach Shawn Larson. “We did not rise to the occasion. Our true test will be responding to this setback this week.”
The Panthers doubled their point total from a year ago, but their 110.5 points could do them no better than a sixth-place tie with Watertown-Mayer.
