Memorial services for Cora “June” Briggs Owen will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at United Methodist Church in Ellendale, Minnesota. Pastor Randy Cirksena will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior. Bonnerup Funeral Service is handling the arrangements.

June Briggs Owen died on April 11, 2017 at the New Richland Care Center at the age of 94. Cora June Russell was born to parents Glen O. and Audrey B. (Gromer) Russell on August 10, 1922, in Bristow, Oklahoma, the second of seven siblings. She was raised in Sedan, Oklahoma. In her younger years, she loved to play softball and high school basketball. She graduated from high school in Sedan and Draughon’s Business College in Oklahoma City.

June was married to Otos Briggs on February 7, 1941. Following their marriage, they worked in the defense plants in Kansas, returning to Oklahoma and farming. In 1952 the family moved to Clarks Grove and in 1955 to their farm north of Ellendale. Otis died in August of 1977.

June was employed by Jostens and Truth Inc. in Owatonna for 14 years, retiring as traffic manager in 1973. June married Wayne Owen at Alamo, Texas in 1984. The couple was married for 11 years, until Wayne passed in 1995.

Memorial services for Mary Bolduan will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in New Richland, MN. Pastor Scott Williams will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

Mary Helen Bolduan, of New Richland, passed away peacefully at the Homestead Hospice House in Owatonna on April 26, 2017 at the age of 77. Mary was born on August 18, 1939 to parents George and Helen (Bucek) Miller in Waseca County. 

Mary grew up in Waseca County and helped her family on the farm. She was waitressing at a café in Waseca when she met her future husband. On July 19, 1958 Mary was united in marriage with Orville Bolduan in New Richland. They have lived in the community since 1961.

Mary was a skilled homemaker and enjoyed cooking, gardening, and sewing costumes, dresses, and clothing alterations through the years. She loved to dance and participated in square dancing for many years with Orville. Mary enjoyed helping at the Legion and assisting with food at Farm & City Days. Mary loved to care for her dogs and will be missed by her dog, Snoopy.

Albert G. Flor, 96 of New Richland, MN died on April 23, 2017. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, April 29 at 11:30 a.m. at All Saints Church, New Richland, MN 56072 with Fr. Michael J. Cronin officiating. Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. before the service. Albert was born on June 25, 1920 in New Ulm, Minn., the son of Albert Daniel Flor and Marie (Inhofer) Flor. Albert attended Trinity Catholic School in New Ulm and graduated in 1938.  He went on to attend the College at St. John’s in Collegeville, Minn., and furthered his education in an accelerated program at the University Of Minnesota School Of Dentistry where he graduated with a Doctor of Dental Science degree in 1943. 

Albert was asked to serve his country and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army Dental Corps from 1942-1945.

On September 2, 1943, Albert married his sweetheart, Lois Margaret (Ganske) Flor while completing dental school and served on many Army bases in the southern United States.

Dr. Albert and his wife Lois moved to New Richland, MN after WWII where he began his private dental clinic and raised his family.   Albert loved his family and his career as a dentist and provided dental care for many people in Southern Minnesota for more than 50 years.

John William Glynn, age 73, passed away at his home near Ellendale, April 25, 2017 after a one-year battle with pancreatic cancer.

John was born to Wesley and Eleanor (Christensen) Glynn on August 22, 1943 in Austin, MN. At the age of 10, he spent a summer fighting polio at the Sister Kenny Institute in Minneapolis. He graduated from Austin High School and went on to Hamline University where he played football and earned a B.A. degree in English. After college he accepted a teaching position at Ellendale-Geneva High School and also coached B-squad football. In 1966 John was drafted into the U.S. Army and served two years in Vietnam. He returned to teaching and coaching after being honorably discharged.

John retired from teaching after spending 35 years at Ellendale-Geneva High School. On April 1, 1978, John married Kathleen Hudson Vangen at First Lutheran Church in Ellendale.

John loved music, especially Bruce Springsteen, Pearl Jam, and all kinds of jazz. John also loved doing the New York Times crossword every day. He split hundreds and hundreds of cords of wood with a maul and wedges. He especially enjoyed his Friday Club Friends. He had many dogs and cats over the years, especially his beloved dog ‘Pepper.’

Lynne L. Swenson, age 79 of rural New Richland, died on Friday, April 21, 2017 at Homestead Hospice House in Owatonna.

Born on May 20, 1937 in Waseca, Minnesota, she was the daughter of Cecil and Eleanor (Wiste) Kelling. She graduated from Waseca High School in 1955 and attended the Minnesota School of Business in Minneapolis for training as a lab tech.  Lynne was employed at the Waseca Clinic for 30 years until her retirement. She married David Swenson on April 23, 1960 in Waseca and together they raised two children. Lynne was active in both her children’s and grandchildren’s lives. She and David loved to travel. There were many family vacations over the years and in their retirement they made the trip of a lifetime to Norway and Sweden. Lynne was an amazing cook and hostess. Rarely would you find her idle, rather helping, loving, and serving others. She loved baking, gardening, and shopping.  Lynne was an active member of Faith United Methodist Church in Waseca.
