The funeral service for Viola J. Klomp, 93, of New Richland, MN and formerly of Stewartville, MN, will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at Zion Lutheran Church in Stewartville with Rev. Byron Meline officiating. Burial  and a committal service will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Stewartville. Mrs. Klomp died on Friday, April 8, 2016 of natural causes at the New Richland Care Center, where she had resided since December of 2010.

Viola June Lange was born on June 16, 1922 in Harmony, MN, to Friebert and Sarah (Miller) Lange. She grew up on the family farm and attended country and Harmony schools. She helped on the family farm and was employed as a clerk at the Johnson Grocery Store in Harmony.

Troy Donald Luoma, aged 49, of Hartland, MN and recently of East Hampton, CT, passed away on Friday, March 25, 2016, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester after a lengthy illness. He was surrounded by his family and friends.

Troy was born in Minneapolis, MN on June 6, 1966. He graduated from New Richland High School, and subsequently joined the United States Army as a Small Arms Repairman. Troy served with the 503rd Maintenance Company in Panama and Honduras, and later as Military Police with the 18th MP Brigade in Saudi Arabia and Iraq under operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm.

Viola E. Henkensiefken, age 79 of Waseca died on Friday, March 25, 2016 at the Janesville Nursing Home surrounded by her loving family.

 Born on July 14, 1936 in Waseca, Minnesota, she was the daughter of Henry and Tillie (Stenson) Dobberstein. She attended Waldorf High School.  Viola married Emerson Henkensiefken on June 28, 1953 at St. John Lutheran Church in Waseca. She had worked primarily as a homemaker and farm wife, but had also worked at Birdseye, the Waseca Eagles Club, Yellow Mushroom, and the Waseca Senior Center. Viola enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking, baking, gardening, and playing cards. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Waseca where she was active with Ladies Aid, quilters, and taught Sunday School. She was also a past member of the Waseca Eagles and American Legion Auxiliary.

Darrol Herbert Sponberg died on Friday March 25, 2016 at the New Richland Care Center where he was loved and cared for by a wonderful staff. He was 83 years old.

Darrol was born on September 23, 1932 on the Sponberg farm, homesteaded by his great-grandfather in 1871, to Herbert and Lucille (Olson) Sponberg. He attended country school and New Richland High School. He graduated from Tucson, AZ High School where the family moved to because of his sister’s health. Later, he was made an honorary member of the New Richland Class of 1950.

He attended college at the University of Minnesota Farm Campus for only a short time because his parents were injured in a traffic accident and he was needed to help on the farm. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1953 and served in Korea toward the end of the war.

Memorial services for Elmer James Young of New Richland, MN, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at the First Congregational Church in New Richland, MN. Pastor Pamela Jensen will officiate. Friends may greet the family one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the Freeborn Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded.

Elmer died Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at the Ecumen Care Center in New Richland. He was 94 years of age.

Elmer was born July 30, 1921 in Freeborn Township on the family farm the son of Jerome and Mabel (Rassmussen) Young. He attended country school and entered the US Army in 1942 serving overseas during WW2. He was seriously wounded in Italy and was awarded the Purple Heart. After his return in 1945 he was united in marriage to Elvira Christiansen on July 30, 1946 in Freeborn MN. Together they farmed the family farm in rural Wells for many years.
