The funeral service for Harold “Hap” Wayne Hagen, of New Richland, will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, December 16, 2016, at LeSueur River Lutheran Church in rural New Richland. The Reverend Brian Gegel will officiate. Interment will be in Le Sueur River Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church prior to the funeral service beginning at 9:30 a.m. Hap died at New Richland Care Center on December 10, 2016. He was 87. 

Hap was born on March 15, 1929, on the family farm located northeast of New Richland.  He is the son of Christ and Sarah (Sunde) Hagen. He attended School District 85 and graduated from New Richland High School in 1946. From 1951 to 1953, he served stateside in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. On June 26, 1954, Hap married Marlene Semmann at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Owatonna. They were married for 57 years when Marlene passed away on December 27, 2011. Hap farmed in the New Richland area all his life, retiring in 1993. Hap and Marlene moved into New Richland in 2004. He moved to New Richland Care Center in July of 2009.

 

A Sharing of Memories for Bruce A. Langlie will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, December 16, 2016 at Bonnerup Funeral Chapel, Albert Lea. Burial will be at First Lutheran Cemetery in Ellendale, MN.

Bruce Langlie, of rural Glenville, passed away suddenly on Friday, December 9, 2016 in Geneva, MN of a heart attack.

He was born on September 5, 1950 to Athan and Helyn (Hanson) Langlie on the family farm in Steele County.  He graduated from Ellendale High School in 1968. Enlisting in the United States Army in 1970 and serving in Viet Nam until his honorable discharge in 1971. Bruce worked in the Twin Cities with “Smith Brothers and Fetrow” where they build custom motorcycles, and at Minnesota DOT. He eventually moved back to the family farm where he farmed for a number of years, and occasionally drove truck for a few people in the area.

Gladys I. Battenfeld of New Richland died early in the morning on Monday, December 05, 2016 at the New Richland Care Center. She was 99 years old.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, December 8, 2016 at Trinity Lutheran Church in New Richland. Reverend Scott Williams will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at church. Interment will be in St. Olaf Cemetery, rural New Richland.

Gladys was born on August 12, 1917 in Stratford, Iowa to parents John and Freda (West) Mogenson. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran in New Richland and was an active lifelong member. She attended a country school just east of New Richland through eighth grade. 

Gladys married her husband Fred Battenfeld on October 15, 1934 at Grace Lutheran Church in Waseca.

On a cold and snowy day, a beloved mother, daughter, sister, grandma, great-grandma, and friend was called home to be with the lord. Carolyn Marie (Anderson) David, age 69, formerly of Owatonna, MN died Thursday, December 8, 2016 at Colony Court Assisted Living in Waseca, MN. A funeral service will be held Monday, December 12, 2016, at 11 a.m., at Zion Lutheran Church of Lemond, 7126 SW 98th St., Ellendale, MN 56026, with Rev. Patti Meyer officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, December 11 from 2 to 5 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, MN, and will continue one hour prior to the service on Monday. Funeral services for Lyle J. Bird will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 10, 2016 at Cross Of Glory Lutheran Church.  Rev. Mark Hillmer will officiate.  Interment will be at the Hartland Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by local servicemen’s organizations, VFW and American Legion. Visitation will be from 5 to p.m. Friday, December 9th at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Lyle died Sunday, December 04, 2016 at Thorne Crest Retirement Center.

Lyle Jasper Bird was born on February 25, 1929 in Winnebago County, Iowa, to Omer and Inga (Hagen) Bird. He graduated from Freeborn High School. He was inducted into the Armed Forces December 6, 1950 serving on the 131st Trans Truck Co. Lyle received a Korean service medal with bronze campaign star and United Nations service medal meritorious. He was discharged December 4, 1952 and was transferred to USAR on December 5, 1952 for 5 years. Lyle was a member of the Freeborn Legion Post 552 and the Freeborn Fire Department.
