Jane Leigh Wagner gained her wings on December 31, 2023 with her loving family by her side at St Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, MN. Heaven just got a little windier when the hurricane blew in.
Mama Jane, Hurricane Jane, or Mama Wags, no matter what you called her she was sure to be your friend through thick and thin and support you with no judgement. Jane lived life BIG, loved hard, and cared tremendously for those she surrounded herself with.
Born on September 18, 1966, in Albert Lea, MN, Jane was the daughter of John and Shirley (Trytten) Somage. She grew up in the tight-knit Hartland community, where she formed lifelong friendships and cherished memories. Jane graduated from New Richland Hartland-High School, a place where her sparkling personality and vivacious spirit shone brightly. She spent her life caring for those around her and often saying “It’s just what I do.”; her caring heart for those around her was evident in everything that she did.
Jane found true love in Darren Wagner, and together they embarked on a beautiful journey of love and companionship, marrying on May 16, 1987 at Cross of Glory Church in Hartland, MN. Their union was blessed with five wonderful children, who were the center of her universe. Jane’s only aspiration in life was to be a mom and she protected her children like a mama bear with cubs. She created a warm and welcoming home, where the doors were always open and hearts were filled with laughter and love. Her children's friends were like extended family, and Jane's nurturing spirit embraced them all. Jane delighted in preparing delicious meals for her loved ones; whether it was a simple family dinner or a big gathering, no one left her table hungry. Jane's renowned homemade pizza was always a sought-after treat in the Wagner household and a delight for all who tasted it.
Not only was Jane a fierce advocate for her children, but she was also their greatest cheerleader. From games in their driveway at home to late-night basketball tournaments, she never missed an opportunity to support them. Most of her wardrobe donned mascots from various schools and activities that her children were involved in and she wore them proudly!
Being a grandmother brought immense joy to Jane's life. Her heart would burst with pride as she watched her grandchildren grow and flourish; embracing every moment spent with them, generously showering them with love, laughter, and the occasional lipstick-stained cheek. She was also a loving dog mom to Hutch and Howie who were very rarely not by her side or riding shotgun.
Jane had an adventurous spirit, and she loved spending time outdoors and was always “one of the guys” while enjoying hunting and fishing. Summer days were often spent on the pontoon at St. Olaf Lake or around bonfire with family and friends. Each year at Christmas her tree was beautifully decorated and each ornament placed in its rightful place. The Wagner Fourth of July celebration was always a way to bring together friends and family with a day full of fun and a sky full of fireworks in the evening.
Jane had a larger-than-life personality that left an indelible mark on everyone she met. Her infectious smile could brighten even the darkest of days, and her laugh would resonate in your heart long after it faded from the room. Her honesty and straightforwardness drew people towards her, creating meaningful connections and cherished friendships.
She will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Darren; children, Alex (Laura), Daniel (Kristina), Carlie, Madison, and Marnie; grandchildren, Hunter, Nathan, Alayna, Landen, Ava, and Adley; siblings, Susie (Erik) Monson, Michael (Lynn) Somage, Robin (Scott) Routh; mother-in-law, Linda Wagner; sisters and brothers-in-law, Cory (Maryann) Wagner, Tracy (Bruce) Meyer, Paulette (Dave) Krampitz, Danielle (Luverne) Zacharias, Leslie (Ben)Truesdell; along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Jane was preceded in death by her parents, father-in-law, Daniel Wagner, nephews, Rayne and Ryder Truesdell, many aunts and uncles; along with her beloved pups.
A funerals service will be held on Monday, January 8, 2024 at 11 a.m. at First Lutheran Church in Ellendale, MN; Pastor Kyle Smith will officiate. Jane’s family will greet guests at a visitation on Sunday, January 7, 2024 from 3:00 PM- 7:00 PM at First Lutheran Church in Ellendale, MN and one hour before the service at the church. Interment will be at LeSueur River Cemetery in New Richland, MN.
The memory of Jane's unwavering love, her vibrant spirit, and her selflessness will forever live on in the lives of those she touched. Though she may no longer be physically with us, her legacy of kindness and compassion will continue to inspire us all as we carry her spirit within us forever.
