Thomas “Tom” McMahon, 73, of Ellendale, died Friday, September 23, 2011 at St. Mary's Hospital. 

Tom was born February 22, 1938 in Owatonna, Minnesota the son of John and Ella (Jensen) McMahon. He was raised in Owatonna and graduated from Owatonna High School in 1956.  He then joined the Minnesota National Guard.  Tom enjoyed the outdoors and worked as a fishing guide in Northern Minnesota with his friend, Guts Anderson.  He then moved to Chadron, NE and worked as a ranch hand with his brother-in-law, Jim Sager.  Tom returned to Owatonna where he worked for Owatonna Publics Utilities (OPU). 

He was united in marriage to Karen Jacobsen on January 19, 1976.  They made their home near Ellendale.  Tom then worked for Northern Natural Gas which eventually became Enron.  After his retirement from Enron, he worked part time at the Owatonna Country Club.  

He is survived by his wife Karen McMahon of Ellendale; a son, Mike (and Barb) Neff of Owatonna; a daughter, Gena Selk of Owatonna; a brother, Joe (and Karen) McMahon in Texas; two sisters, Roseann Sager of Eden Prairie; Mary Hedstrum of Aurora, OH; three grandchildren, Greg Selk of Owatonna and Anna and Grace Neff of Owatonna.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers-in-law, Ted Hedstrum and Jim Sager; his father and mother-in-law Harry and Helen Jacobsen; and his sister and brother-in-law Judith and James Larson.

Visitation will be at Pontoppidan Lutheran Church on Tuesday, September 27, 2011 from 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM.  Memorial services will be held Tuesday, September 27, 2011 at 2:30 PM at Pontoppidan Lutheran Church, Ellendale with Sandy Miller officiating.  Interment will be in the Pontoppidan Lutheran Cemetery, rural Ellendale.  Memorial preferred to the Pontoppidan Lutheran Church Building Fund, Hope Lodge, Rochester or donor’s choice.  Arrangements by Michaelson Funeral Home, Owatonna.
