Gerald J. “Bud” Possin, age 78, of Waseca, was born into eternal life Sunday, February 27, 2011 at the Owatonna Hospital.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, March 3rd at 11:00 a.m. at the LeSueur River Lutheran Church in rural New Richland. Interment will be in the church Cemetery.

The Possin Family will greet friends on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at McRaith Funeral Home & Crematory in Waseca, and will continue on Thursday morning for one hour prior to services, at church.


Gerald Jalon was born on December 23, 1932 to Otto and Bertha (Schendel) Possin. He was born into eternal life February 27, 2011. He was 78 years old. Gerald “Bud” attended school at Freedom Lutheran Church in rural Waldorf, MN, and graduated from Waldorf High School. He married Viva Ann Huxford June 21, 1950 at First Lutheran Church in Waldorf. Bud and Viva started farming west of New Richland and then bought their own farm west of St. Olaf Lake, New Richland. Bud was also a seed corn dealer for various companies and won many awards and trips for his efforts. He drove truck for Land O’Lakes out of New Richland for many winters. Since 1960 he has been a member of LeSueur River Lutheran Church where he served as a council member and usher. Bud and Viva moved to Waseca and lived there after their retirements from farming. Bud and Viva enjoyed bowling, riding snowmobiles, playing cards, and watching the Vikings and Twins. In his younger days, Bud enjoyed playing high school sports, softball in and softball in church leagues. He took great pride watching his children and grandchildren playing their various sports over the years. He also enjoyed helping his nephews Marlin, David and James on their farms with planting and harvesting. Bud was also a member of the Owatonna Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie # 1791.


Gerald is survived by his children, Nancy (Mike) Cottrell of Albert Lea, Brenda Ziegler of Rochester, and Susan Luschen of Owatonna, Craig Possin of Rochester and Dennis (LaRae) Possin of St. Cloud; by his grandchildren Marisa and Dylan Cottrell, Briana, Alyssa, Jacob and Jordan Ziegler; by his sister Betty (Harvey) Zell of Alma City; by is sisters-in-law Elinore Possin of Hartland, Glee Hodapp of Sun City, AZ, Ranae Clarke of Prior Lake, and brother-in-law Ralph (Elaine) Huxford of Waseca; by many nieces and nephews, and his friends at Maple Terrace Apartments in Waseca.


He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years Viva Ann, infant daughter Sandra, son Bradley and son-in-law Kordell Ziegler; by his parents, brothers Ervin and Ewald, and sisters Mabel (Art) Kreutz, Lenora (Clarence) Witt, and Elaine (Harvey) Witt.
