Sylvia Irene Hallevik Young, age 82, passed away on June 15, 2016 in Blairsville, GA. Her graveside service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 10 at 10 a.m. at the North Waseca Lutheran Church, 40430 120th St., Waseca, MN. Pastor Nancy Hansen will officiate the service.

Sylvia Irene Hallevik was born in Quincy, MA on September 26, 1933 to parents Christian and Alletta “Lettie” (Alland) Hallevik. She is the granddaughter of Torkel and Ingeborg Alland, who emigrated from Norway in 1880 and were residents of the Waseca area. Sylvia married Charles “Chuck” Young on January 3, 1957 in Boston, MA. Soon after their marriage they moved to West Palm Beach, FL, where Sylvia worked as a school secretary for the Palm Beach School District, retired in 1995, and resided until her move to Murphy, NC in 1998.

Sylvia loved all things Norwegian and was a member of several Norwegian fraternities, including the Sons of Norway. She loved to cook, especially enjoying gourmet foods and her favorite sweet treat, Godiva chocolates. Animals and their care were near and dear to her heart; she adored her poodle, Cocoa. Friendships were sustained playing bridge, one of her favorite pastimes. Sylvia’s laughter and fun personality often made her the “life of the party.”

Sylvia is survived by her children, Chris Young and Wendy Young, both residing in Florida, as well as relatives in Norway.

In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to North Waseca Lutheran Church or an animal charity, and presence of family and friends to honor Sylvia’s life.
