Memorial services for Carol R. Battenfeld, age 72, of Hartland, will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 7, 2016 at Trinity Lutheran Church in New Richland. Rev. Paul Andree will officiate. Interment will be at Freeborn Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. on Friday, May 6 at Trinity Lutheran Church in New Richland and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Carol died Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester.

Carol R. Battenfeld was born on October 13, 1943, the daughter of Maynard and Beverly (Schiager) Rasmussen. She graduated from Freeborn High School. On September 22, 1961, Carol married Robert Battenfeld at the Congregational Church of Freeborn. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she was very active, including teaching Sunday School, serving on the Church Council, and the Altar Guild. She was a past member of the New Richland City Council. Carol was also a member of the Lions Club of New Richland. She enjoyed spending time with family, including her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, reading, and gardening.  Carol loved baking chocolate chip cookies and cakes and sharing them with family and friends.  She donated gallons of blood to the Red Cross and gave the gift of sight.

Carol is survived by her husband, Robert; children, Brenda (Daniel) Hullopeter and Barb (Patrick) Hullopeter; grandchildren, Robert (Brittany), Tyler (Bobbi), Nathan (Maggie), Carrie (Aaron), Alex, and Ashley (Ted); great-grandchildren, Kennedie, LaMetrius, Izabella, Kara, and Ronin; mother, Beverly Rasmussen; mother-in-law, Gladys Battenfeld; siblings, Nancy (Chuck) Stadheim, Dick (Sharon) Rasmussen), Eddie (Betty) Battenfeld, Myra Battenfeld, Connie (Francis) Mucha, and Marty Battenfeld; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Carol was preceded in death by her beloved daughter Linda Spooner, father Maynard Rasmussen, father-in-law Fred Battenfeld, sister-in-law Lou Battenfeld, brother-in-law Russ Battenfeld, and nephew Brad Battenfeld.
